How the hell was this judge even elected to judge a Donald Trump case...? He even made donations to Joe Biden's campaign!
In Europe this would be considered totally unacceptable and not only would the judge not be allowed to be in this case he would be at least suspended as well.
Judge Juan Merchan Politics: Is the Trump Judge a Democrat or Republican
Here’s what you need to know about the politics of Judge Juan Merchan:
Judge Juan Merchan Donated $15 to President Joe Biden’s Campaign, Federal Records Show
FECJuan Merchan campaign finance record.
In a court motion, Trump argued that Merchan should recuse himself, in part because of campaign donations the judge previously made, an August decision by Merchan reads.
“It is Defendant’s contention that campaign contributions made by this Court in 2020, ‘raise if true, at the very least, an appearance of impartiality [sic].” The state opposed the motion, arguing that Trump “presents no arguments that fairly raise any actual or perceived conflict of interest or preconceived bias.”
Merchan rejected Trump’s arguments for the judge’s recusal, writing, “Defendant has failed to demonstrate that there exists concrete, or even realistic reasons for recusal to be appropriate, much less required on these grounds. The speculative and hypothetical scenarios offered by Defendant fall well short of the legal standard. Defendant’s motion for recusal on these grounds is therefore Denied,” the ruling states.
BBC reported that Merchan “donated a total of $35 to Democrats during the 2020 election.” Federal Election Commission records confirm this and indicated $15 went to the Joe Biden campaign. According to NBC News, the two other donations were “to the groups Stop Republicans and Progressive Turnout Project.”
Trump supporter Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a Republican, has referred to Merchan as a “Democrat Manhattan Judge,” based on these donations.

It's pathetic that these people think Alito should be recused but this guy, and the last judge, are totally fair.

You people blew your wad on this shit already with Mueller. It's been a well understood for years that special prosecutors, when set up to investigate politicians, are always Republican. Why? Because if a Democrat-leaning prosecutor were to absolve a Democrat of wrongdoing, There'd be accused of letting them go for political purposes. If a Democratic-leaning prosecutor were to recommend indictment for a Republican politician, they wold be accused of doing so for political purposes. So even Dems have gone along with the charade and agreed that every special prosecutor has to be a Republican. What did it get? Republicans claiming that Robert Muller, a lifelong Republican who was made head of the FBI by George W. Bush, was a Democrat. Hell, Republicans ranted against "Democrat judges" multiple times when their election challenges kept getting tossed even when the judges in question were appointed by Trump. I forget which state it was (I think either Mississippi or Alabama), but when a state Supreme Court ruled against Republicans in some issue or other, the GOP and their lap dogs (including notable bald man Joe Rogan) kept repeating the lie that "Democrats on the court" had made the ruling, even though ALL of the justices on the court were Republicans. The lesson? Stop worrying about "optics" and kowtowing to the paranoid Right by letting Republicans run everything when the Right will just say they are Democrats anyway if things don't go their way.

So, every defendant is this nation has a right to be tried only by a judge who votes the same way?

Finally, we found a crime in this case. The judge committed campaign finance violations.

This is why judges should not be allowed to vote. This is why judges should not be elected or have a partisan bias. Judges should be appointed by an independent commissions. The same for District Attorney's and Sherriff's. Law enforcement should not indulge in our idiotic hyper-partisan politics. IMO.
