Quite annoying really.
Every line is spoken with over-exaggeration, or a little dance, or a little song, or a little fake way of speaking in desperation to sound funny. Highly annoying affectations.
The characters are also unlikable at this early stage - Ross is a whining wet fart; Joey is a laughable Italian stallion caricature; and all the females are screeching harpies.
Also, why do they put their feet up on public seats so much? All I can think about is taking a hammer to their kneecaps when they do that.

Joey was a normal person in season one. By season ten he had a very severe special needs retardation, they literally confirmed that in the French episode.

Phoebe's line about Joey, "Il est un peu retardé," was edited out. Anyway I preferred the later Joey. He was very dim (not as much as 'very severe special needs retardation' though), but also very decent and likeable, which the early poser/player character is not.

I liked Chandler.
I never took any warming to Courtney Cox or Lisa Kurdrow. Not in this, not in anything they've ever appeared in. Not quite sure why.

Phoebe is a horrible character, always doing dick things to people.

thought it has aged badly but still some fine comic acting and some great scripts. American shows seem to go on too long until every single situation has been repeated to the point of tedium. It's a factory with about 20 writers and is great for about 50 episodes but then they usually start to fade and get silly.

I saw it the other way with Friends - started out not so good (seasons 1 - 3) but from 4 got better and better with each season. I started out finding Ross incredibly annoying but he ended up my favourite character. David Schwimmer could portray vulnerable & slightly nutty desperation incredibly well.

Up to episode 13 now and the writing is distinctly better and the acting is calming down a little bit. Joey is not as much the caricature that he was and the shrieking harpies are not shrieking as much. Ross is still a twat, but now he is a twat with a monkey - one of stupidest sub-plots ever.

Michael Jackson spotted in Friends Very young friends. This can get into potentially tricky ground. If a woman were to surround herself with children and grant their fantasies to carnivals and zoos and give their careers a step up turning them into A-list choreographers and onscreen stars in music videos, …. would there be this much suspicion and outrage? I'm only going by what I've seen thus far. He was acquitted as I recall, found not guilty unanimously. These accusers testified under oath, and now that they're broke, they're reversing their story and seeking millions in damages. That being said, I also *do* see the other side, as I was abused as a child, and it took decades before I admitted it. It was a parent, and I lied (by omission and never asked anyone for help and never knew what was happening to me was wrong). I remember asking for it to stop because of the pain. It only stopped at 11 because I said to a friend: "Doesn't it hurt when your (parent) does (this) to you?" And my friend looked confused and said, "They don't do that." I went home and told my (parent) of what my friend said, it doesn't happen in her household. And it stopped forever. So I'm not blind to how children who have been molested can be shunted into silence. However, there's still a part of me that recognizes Jackson never had a childhood of his own and was run as a money maker by his overbearing and very abusive father. Michael never had a chance to be a real child, and perhaps, just perhaps, there is innocence in this. I don't know the truth, just saying I'm willing to admit there are usually two sides or more to every story being pedaled.

Up to episode 22. It's much better than I remember it being. The annoying character traits have all gone and the writing is in full swing, but there are still far too many feet-on-the-seat incidents.
Who walks into a cafe off the street and sits on the arm of the sofa with their shoe soles on the cushions? Is this how people used to behave in New York in the 90s? Not acceptable.

It's now into series 2. This is the crap stuff I remember. Endless, unfunny back and forth over Ross and Rachael. I think this story line lasts all the way to the end of series 3.
