OT: What is the worst car accident you have survived?

I was 8 when we were hit from behind by a guy driving a Corvette. I remember it well. We all went to the hospital too. My mother was injured the most, but nothing serious. When I was in high school, she was in another major accident a few years later when a woman ran into her from behind as well. She got whiplash in that one and had to wear a neck brace. And it was the PE teacher at my middle school that I had gone to. She turned around to scold her kid and caused the accident.

I was thinking about this the other day, the very last part of this post.

I was 15, in the passenger seat, my mom driving. I forgot where we were going, but we were really close to home. There was this T intersection, where a survey crew was there to measure before putting in a traffic light. We were on the main road. We get to the intersection (Love Is A Battlefield was playing and to this day I change the station whenever that song is played), are waved on, and bam, a car from the side street slams right into the front passenger door, where I was. It was a 4 lane main road, and our car flew to the barrier on the left. Both my mom and I hit our heads in the windshield. I don’t know if I blacked out, but my mom did, and thankfully she came to shortly after. I bruised some ribs and my knees had slammed into the glove compartment. A piece of bone in my right knee was barely hanging by a thread. But I was able to wear a brace, use crutches, and go to school. I had a knee surgery scheduled for May, I think (the accident was on 1/28/1985. But then one night a month or so later, I was watching Mr Belvedere, I moved and then screamed. The piece of bone that had been barely been hanging on came completely off. Was in the hospital for about a week, and had the surgery in May.

I couldn’t return to school for the rest of 10th grade after the piece of bone came off, so I was out a few months. I had some teachers come over to help tutor me, but it’s not the same (no zoom classes). I dunno how I passed all of my courses.

Here’s what I was thinking about the other day, with all of the talk about trials. My mom and I sued the survey company, the woman who had crashed into us, and separately I had to sue my mom in case she was found liable in any way (she wasn’t). Talk about slow Justice, as I said this happened in the middle of 10th grade, but the trial didn’t start until I was a freshman in college. So I’m in court and had to get on the witness stand (this is the crux of why I thought about it the other day). I was asked how old I was when the accident occurred. I answered, “ummm….ummmmmm…ummmmmmmmm”, then was asked how old I was at the present time. I said 18. Was asked again how old I was when the accident occurred, and I was like “ummmm…..ummmmmm….ummmmmmm” at which point the judge, prob both frustrated and sympathetic to how nervous I was, asks me “what year were you born?”

Well the only accident I've been in (thus far...) happened in November 2013 in my first car, driving along a wide dirt road with lots of turns and rises in it, and I'm pretty much in sight of where the dirt road joined a sealed/paved/bitumen highway, when another car (a Suzuki, similar to mine) tore up the middle of this road (plenty of room on this road, and he chooses to drive in the middle!), which forced me to head further to the left than before. I hit a small rut filled in with loose dirt and launched the car a few inches off the ground, enough to spit me diagonally across the road to the other side at an insane speed. Luckily I still had control of the wheel, so I was able to keep it on the road with careful turns and let it lose momentum on its own. Had I hit the brakes at any point when the car was going too fast, it would've flipped. It was fucking terrifying!
I got out and had to walk around for a couple minutes to calm my nerves. The Suzuki was unscathed, and I continued driving. Three cars come along in the moments following the incident, and they all stopped to see if I was okay (this was a busy road, btw).
Turns out I knew the guy who had been driving in the middle of the road. He had been a bus driver who'd been recently fired for smashing up one up by reversing it into a wall.

Got rear ended at a stop light by a Buick Skylark going 95 mph. Bent my drive train, busted every motor mount, sent me into an electric pole that was snapped off. He jumped out and said "Look what you did to my car!"
