If God exists he knows everything. Everything - what's happening everywhere, and also what happened in the past, what's happening now and what will happen in the future.
If he knows what's happening in the future, he knows whether you will ultimately be damned or saved. And me. Therefore it is all determined before we die .Even before we are born.
This is the conclusion the chief character of the book arrives at - and he therefore determines to engage in every crime under the sun because it doesn't make any difference.

Ultimately, it makes no difference whether god exists or not. I therefore don't get his premise.
