Currently, 70% of all Windows machines are still running Windows 10 and Microsoft plans to kill support for Windows 10 in October next year. You will still have the option of getting updates afterwards, but you will have to pay (or pirate). There is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and I run it myself, but that's only for power users and realistically the average Joe will not install it. It’s a pity Apple’s push into the business world failed. I much prefer Mac OS. There's a prank that involves tricking someone into thinking their computer is upgrading to Windows 11. That's how bad Windows 11 is. I would be running Linux if it wasn't for the lack of software compatibility. It's mostly just old habits that keep me on Windows and learning a new operating system is something that makes me feel I'm too old for this shit. One day I'll take the step though, I m quite sure of that.

Actually it is a device driver issue on older computers preventing the upgrade to a newer version of Windows. If you bought a Dell or Gateway computer that won't be as much of an issue as some custom made gamer rig. However, Linux doesn't use device drivers except maybe for the video card so Linux is just perfect for old computers. If you use Mac OS that is really just a proprietary paid for version of Linux that is really out of date. A free distribution of Linux is actually more secure than Microsoft Windows or even Mac OS. Mac OS is not Linux, it's actually a version of Unix. As for out of date-ness, it's difficult to say that with any OS, since there's so many components to all of them (Windows and Linux included), many of which were originally authored decades ago. Linux is Unix-like, while MacOS is Unix. Linux in fact means Linux Is Not Unix.

One alternative is the "Lin" is the same as the first letters of Linus Torvalds's first name, he being the originator of Linux. Another interesting fact is that if you include mobile devices, Linux is the most popular OS in the world, since Android is a Linux variant.

Android is built on the Linux kernel, but it is disputed AFAIK whether Android is Linux. The counter-argument is that Linux cannot run Android apps and vice versa. ChromeOS is also, in essence, Android running in a desktop environment and Chromebooks are mostly what they use in the schools today if I understand correctly (Windows no longer dominates there).

My kids both have Chromebooks for school.

Just got in to work and every fucking thing is down. Not sure why they even had us come in. I work from home and everything is good including my Microsoft Teams and Outlook. I would’ve loved to have today off. It’s summer, baby! I could go chill on one of the beaches of Lake Michigan. And get shot.
