Do you get any more box office than a team with their share of haters going for an unprecedented (since Harold Holt) 4 consecutive premierships? Why yes, you can. Their opponents are Melbourne, the team who stunned Penrith in the 2020 decider when the Panthers looked unbeatable.
Coming in Melbourne are travelling a little better. They're looking a lot cleaner and have fewer injuries. Penrith have a little question mark over star playmaker Nathan Cleary and it's just looking like a hard one. So do Melbourne end this dynasty or can the old band dig deep for one last curtain call and take a place in history we are never likely to see equalled in our life times?

Absolute coin flip.
My head says Melbourne. Sizzling form and just look like the unstoppable force right now.
My heart says Penrith. They tick so many boxes and they deserve to be the rightly claimed the best side of the NRL era.

The two clubs who's men's teams list their prelims won through in the Women's so the lead in game (the NRLW Grand Final) will be Sharks v Roosters. Go Sharks! The Shire was one of the first clubs to put a real effort into their women's program and should have been an inaugural club so it's good to see them find their feet quickly and I hope they win.
The State Championship will be Newtown vs North Brisbane Devils

I was hoping that the State Championship was going to be Norths v Norths……
I don’t know the full details, but I’ve heard that there was a lot politics involved in keeping the Sharks out of the inaugural NRLW.

Nelson was banned for Melbourne. They basically made the initial penalty so severe that only a not guilty verdict could get him off. It was upheld so that's good Night Felicia.
I doubt we'll see any panic from Melbourne. One man down. Next man up.

Jahrome Hughes edged out James Tedesco by a single vote to take out the Dally M. The Roosters Olivia Kernick took out the NRLW version.
Team of the year was: Teddy, Lomax, To'o, S Crichton, Farnworth, Dearden, Hughes, Grant, Tapine, Fanua-Blake, A Crichton, Katoa and Yeo.
Nicho Hynes won the Man of the Year for his mental health advocacy. The Dragon's Kimberley Hunt won the Women's version (something i only mentioned as proof that someone in the Dragons actually did something worthwhile last year).
The Dolphins Jack Bostock, unsurprisingly, was rookie of the year. We got the Women's award: Kasey Reh.
Craig Bellamy was coach of the Year for the 7th time.
Steve Crichton was captain of the year.

North's win the State Championship, coming from behind to beat Newtown 20-18. Only saw about 20 minutes. The Jets scored a belter of a try to level up at 6-all.

That was a superb half of football. Penrith in the ascendancy and dominating territory and possessionbut only took the lead right at the end of the half.
Half time couldn't have come quick enough for Melbourne. Another 5 minutes and it felt like Penrith could have really put it on the scoreboard. But, as is, Storm well in the game and will be looking for better territory and repeat sets to start the second half.

One of the best Welcone to Country's I've heard as well. Such a nice change for it to a) be welcoming to each and every person in the country and b) making it clear that the Country belongs to everyone.
Loving no Phil Gould on play by play though he is there bloviating during the half time show.

Why the fuck do you not take the 2 there and make it a one possession game?

There was a held up call that may have been a try (not definitive IMO) but apart from that the Storm were just suffocated by Penrith. In the last 15 minutes with the Storm 8 down it was Penrith who took risks. Credit to the Storm to keeping the champs to 14, but once Penrith scored first in the second half you knew it was over.
14-6 the final and Penrith are, unquestionably, the best team of the modern era.

Another close and exciting NRL GF. One for the defensive purists.
Nathan Cleary and Liam Martin deserve the accolades they got, and Paul Alamoti had an absolute barnstormer.
But, honestly, people like talking about immortality and half of fame especially around the halfback, but Isaah Yeo simply has to be put into the conversation too. Over the last 5 seasons I can’t remember him playing a bad game, and tonight, yet again, put in an 80 minute shift of pure quality on both sides of the ball.
Penrith showed they can win without Cleary this year, with Luai filling in and stepping up with aplomb. But Penrith aren’t Penrith without Yeo. They just aren’t. What a player the 13 in the black/pink jersey is….
