"...until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."
That's what Sir Winston Churchill actually said.
What he was thinking, however, was:
"...until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, and with a bag full of technical gadgets we invented, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old. I'm not sure that's a good idea, really, because it's going to shift the balance of power going forward. If I could think of any other option besides becoming a North Sea outpost of the Third Reich, then I'd go a different way, but that's all I've got. The good news is I think we can shepherd these Americans into being stewards of a Free Europe for at least 50 or 60 years, and after that all of us will be dead and it can just be turned over to the Mohameddans."
