Amazing debut and great run with David Lee Roth. Not crazy about Van Hagar, but still better than Gary Sherone. Your thoughts?

IMO, David Lee Roth was Van Halen. They jumped the shark after he left. He had a very good solo career.
I watched an interview of his where he said they parted ways on friendly terms, then later he heard Eddie and the others badmouthing him. I also heard it was Eddie who was always on drugs and alcohol, and treated people like shit.

Love Walks In is one of my favorite songs.
It speaks to the romantic in me.
Tbh tho I always thought it was called: loves comes walking in.

The early Dave days were epic. Fair Warning is such an underrated album. But they got so campy at the end. Ice Cream Man, Big Bad Bill is Sweet William Now, Happy Trails. Didn't care too much for the 1st Van Hagar album, 1984. Bubblegum rock. But 5150 is a masterpiece. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, another underrated album. Balance had moments but it pretty much went to hell after that.
Seen then four times live. The one thing about Eddie, he always looked like he was having the time of his life. Few stars like that, Geddy Lee is another.

Sammy Hagar had actual, musical talent. He could play an instrument and he could sing. David Lee Roth was just some guy jumping around like a circus clown. Also, Sammy Hagar was the originator of the "Aliens" meme as shown by his gesture right before he starts this song:

Roth brought a lot of showmanship to the band, but the vocals were secondary Eddie’s guitar playing.

I remember, in 2007, picking up a camper van in Brisbane for my 3-month trip around Australia, getting on the ramp to the highway and putting the radio on, and 'Jump' was playing.
It was the perfect exciting start to my trip. Love that song, but the timing was perfect. I seriously blasted it!

I read Valerie Bertinelli's memoir, and Eddie sounded like a decent enough guy, but he had a helluva alcohol problem.

If only Eddie were still alive, they could’ve ended this whole Middle East bullshit.

It was the perfect exciting start to my trip. Love that song, but the timing was perfect. I seriously blasted it! My parents were not into hard rock per se, but whenever this song would come on the radio during our various road trips in the 1980s, they would never change the station. And I didn't ask them not to. Believe me, they would change the station if something came on that didn't agree with their ears. I think they liked the sound of this song as well as a lot of the other songs from the '80s. Just not real hard rock or metal. ![]()
