The Nord Stream pipeline getting the go ahead as the article states. I have a moral objection to threads which are simply a link with little commentary. I heard that from a learned chap on here once.

It's called "Cold War". There are some other countries who insist on it to go to work, though. Scholz is caught. Nobody in his right mind would and should expect any good will from Putin. I expect an increase in gas prices in the next month.

I expect an increase in gas prices in the next month. We've already had some and the "cap" will be raised in the new year so it will get worse. Do you have a body which limits how high the companies can raise prices? We have had multiple crashes of smaller firms supplying gas.

It allows for people to put a counter argument that it would be pointless, or whether America would be okay with it given their opposition to the pipeline. I expect people like your good self to be able to understand and carry the debate, but from this exchange I see my hopes were sadly wide of the mark. I could add diagrams in crayon if you think it may help you in future?

Happy to discuss if you believe it will. Look forward to hearing back from you, Monkeys.

And one of the "problems" that lead to this crisis was that the EU wanted to submit the pipeline to EU laws. I have no idea how this will turn out. But we have to keep watching. {Meaning} I love this thread.

At the risk of my comment being unwelcome. As long as you remain dependent on gas, oil, and coal, you will remain beholden to and under the thumb of Putin. Unless of course Putin is removed and someone more reasonable and sane takes his place.
I say this with the understanding that unlike most other places on Earth, it still gets quite cold in Europe during the Winter months. Although it should not be cold enough that modern technology cannot provide alternatives to remaining dependent on Fossil Fuels.
If you are ever to definitively gain the upper hand against Russia, then you must show Russia that their gas and oil are worth nothing.

We need to cut off all trade with both russia and china and send them back into the dirt. Being self-sufficient in all essentials should be every government's goal.

Yet we are moving away from self efficiency with our trade deals undercutting British farmers/manufacturing due to standards being lower. This was always the fear with leaving the EU trading agreements. Even our steel manufacturing has gone to foreign owners.

Trying to turn this into your usual Brexit bashing is certainly giving you some nice Christmas morning stretching exercises, but all it is down to is the will of our politicians - and it isn't there.
