England real are utter gash. Yep. One of the worst performances I've seen on a single day. It was on a similar scale to a team on Day One getting rolled in a session and trailing by stumps with their opposition 1 or 2 down. India will win this in a canter tomorrow. Be surprised if India finished any more than 3 down.

India a little nervy, losing Jaiswal and Sharma close together and the run rate slowed to a crawl. Problem is that the softer the ball's gotten on this pitch the easier it's been to bat. India really shouldn't have any problems with the experienced Jadeja at the crease and the in form Gill still there with equally in form Khan and Ruvel to follow, but a double strike right after lunch and it would be game on. India 3-118.

And there's the double strike! India 5 down still needing 67.

India 126 for five after Bashir strikes twice in a row, dismissing Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan with subsequent balls. England have a sniff!

Too many easy singles. If batters are nervy you need them taking risks to score. Jurel and Gill cruising now. Would be surprised if these two aren't there at the end.

For all the BS talk about Bazball etc etc - England are one of the few sides in world cricket that loses that game. New Zealand, Pakistan, even West Indies or Bangladesh win with India 7/177 annd still well over 150 behind. India were just about done. Then some sloppy bowling, sloppy fielding, an explicable performance with the bat and then some really weird captaincy at the end.

I think Australia could definitely have lost that in a similar way. Stokes and Cummins are both captains who drop the field back and only try to get a wicket at one end whenever they have a bunny at one end. We saw Australia give up huge 10th wicket partnerships multiple times this home summer and last year lost two tests overseas from similarly dominant positions. Add to that India struggled to take wickets near the end of England's first innings once the ball got soft and I think they're on the list too. I wish all captains would put that tactic away as T20 cricket has negated it. And let's be honest: New Zealand, Bangladesh and the West Indies would never have been in that position to start with.

Anyway guys I'll be following the NZ series and the start of the footy seasons remotely as my wife and I are going on a cruise around Australia with my mother for the next 4 weeks. So I will still be around, just probably not posting that often.

New Zealand won the toss, bowled first, and Australia are still batting at stumps so it was Australia's day or, more accurately, Cam Green's. His first century was scored on a road in a dead rubber. His second was scored on a pitch the opposition were confident was good enough for bowling to put them in and he was the only bat who passed 41. Smith and Khawaja all but batting out the first session was important too. Australia's day but NZ not necessarily in a bad position if the pitch is flattening with Australia at 9-279.

Australia are still there, 64 run partnership up between Hazlewood (15) and Green (137), as the score goes to 332 for 9 after 96 overs. I think this partnership has given Australia the edge in this match.

345 for 9 as Cam Green goes to 150. Hope you're watching this on the cruise ship!

Looks like NZ are serving up their usual dross v Australia at 6 down still 270 behind. While part of me thinks they should be playing Australia more often, a larger part of me wonders "What's the point?" Mind you, they aren't going to lose this any worse than England will likely manage to in the 2025-26 Ashes so there's that. Frustration with NZ is that they should be better than this. Williamson in particular has done almost nothing against Australia since his hundred on a Perth pitch that was such a road Mitchell Johnson metaphorically committed suicide and retired during the game.
