"Captain -- it is I, Ensign Pulver and I just threw your stinking palm tree overboard. Now, what's all this crud about no movie tonight?"

From A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS:
Thomas More: "Why not be a teacher? You'd be a fine teacher, perhaps a great one."
Richard Rich: "If I was, who would know it?"
Thomas More: "You, your pupils, your friends, God -- not a bad public, that."

From The Greeks Had a Word for Them (1932) *aka Three Broadway Girls:
Schatzi (Joan Blondell): It's not bad, this, huh? Polaire (Madge Evans): I'll tell you more about it in the morning. Schatzi: What do you mean? Polaire: You can tell an awful lot about the liquor you drink the night before by where you find your hat the next morning.

From Ruggles of Red Gap (1935):
Ruggles (Charles Laughton): Oh, no. Always bring the pot to the kettle - never bring the kettle to the pot. Prunella Judson (Zasu Pitts): Listen, Colonel, I've been making tea for longer than I can remember. Ruggles: Don't let's get into difficulties about this. But you must listen to an Englishman about tea. If it were coffee I should be your pupil. Where making tea - and WHEN making tea - always bring the pot to the kettle and NEVER bring the kettle to the pot. Prunella Judson: Oh, Colonel, your knowledge is surprising!

To Kill a Mockingbird
Miss Maudie Atkinson: Jem. Jem: Yes, ma'am? Miss Maudie Atkinson: I don't know if it will help saying this to you... some men in this world are born to do our unpleasant jobs for us... your father is one of them.

From Let's Make Love (1960):
Amanda Dell (Marilyn Monroe): Listen. There used to be an actor. He played Abraham Lincoln for so many years - this is true - he grew his own beard. He went around in a shawl and you know what they used to say? "He looks like Lincoln. He talks like Lincoln. But he won't be satisfied till he gets shot!"

From The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953):
Dr. Terwilliker: I'm sure you'll find this a most fascinating dungeon. That lovely rumbling sound you hear is one of my favorite prisoners! He was a bass drummer in an orchestra I once conducted, had a very bad habit. You know that part in Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, where the drummer is supposed to go 'A-boom-boom-boom-boom?' Well, this stupid lout always went 'A-boom-boom-boom-boom... A-boom!' One extra boom, you know. He'll be here forever. [they see a man beating on an enormous drum repeatedly] Mr. Zabladowski: You mean he has to keep beating that drum forever? Dr. Terwilliker: Oh, that isn't the man I'm punishing! My man is inside the drum!

From The Night of the Hunter (1955):
Rachel Cooper (Lilian Gish): You know, when you're little, you have more endurance than God is ever to grant you again. Children are man at his strongest. They abide.

From Reign of Terror, aka The Black Book (1949):
Maximilian Robespierre (Richard Basehart): I never shake hands. It's unsanitary.
Maximilian Robespierre: Dead enemies make good friends.
Maximilian Robespierre: And you never know who's next on the list, Fouché. Fouché (Arnold Moss): It must be quite a thrill, making out your death list every night.

Murder, My Sweet (1944) is chock full of great quotes. Here are a meager few... best advice is to just watch the movie:
Philip Marlowe (Dick Powell): She was a charming middle-aged lady with a face like a bucket of mud. I gave her a drink. She was a gal who'd take a drink - if she had to knock you down to get the bottle.
Philip Marlowe: "Okay Marlowe," I said to myself. "You're a tough guy. You've been sapped twice, choked, beaten silly with a gun, shot in the arm until you're crazy as a couple of waltzing mice. Now let's see you do something really tough - like putting your pants on."
Helen Grayle (Claire Trevor): You shouldn't kiss a girl when you're wearing that gun... leaves a bruise.
Jules Amthor (Otto Kruger): Your thinking is untidy, like most so-called thinking today. You depress me.
Philip Marlowe: I caught the blackjack right behind my ear. A black pool opened up at my feet. I dived in. It had no bottom. I felt pretty good - like an amputated leg.
