Upon deeper analysis though of those figures. We already have background checks. The GOP also wants existing laws enforced. Dare I say, they want the current ones enforced because an unenforced law is worthless while their counterparts want more laws without first enforcing the current. Legal age to buy? So you'd want the same standard to vote? After all, both are Constitutional rights. What is an assault rifle?... besides just a scary looking gun? Keep in mind most gun deaths are from handguns. So.. nearly half the populace wants more guns and a total of 55% either want the same or less? Thats actually a boon for the GOP. Other factors might move the needle. But these figures don't seem to be damaging upon deeper inspection. |

School kids getting mowed down by psychos on an almost monthly basis will have that affect on people. We all know we're just waiting out the clock for the next mass shooting.

Kids are assholes, maybe we need better parenting.... Whatever, people are sick of mass shootings that no one has any answers for. Personally, I think the people doing these things are out for as many casualties as possible, and guns are just easiest. But because that's what they use, that's what the focus is. America has a huge gun culture so guns are not going to go anywhere, I wish the argument would move to actual solutions to keeping kids safe in schools. I'm not shocked that public opinion is now favorable to more gun control though. You can only have so many shot up schools and say "no, we don't need red flag laws." It's like every month now. |

Personally, buying a gun should be like renting a car, if you can’t do the latter until 25, then you shouldn’t be able to do the former at 18. "Renters must be at least 20 years old to rent a vehicle at most locations in the U.S. and Canada. In Michigan, New York and the province of Quebec, the minimum age to rent a vehicle is 18. In Alabama and Nebraska, the minimum age to rent a vehicle is 19." The age to legally buy a gun should coincide with military service, alcohol, and voting. At some point, we're going to have to decide on an age of adulthood. |
