City leading Burnley 1-0 already in the season opener - and who else but Haaland? Will he top last season's league total of 36?

He lost his scoring touch at the end of last season, so if he can keep it up all season this time he should get to 40.

When did 'taking the knee' come back into fashion?

Kevin De Bruyne went off injured early, but that hasn't cut off Haaland's supply line - he pots #2 with 10 minutes to spare before halftime.

Arsenal hosting Forest in the early kickoff - beginning what I'm certain will be a crushingly disappointing season for me personally.

I think Man City are still too strong and have too much depth over a whole season for anyone. Arsenal will face some stiff competition for second place this year from Liverpool and United, I don't think Chelsea or Spurs will be a threat. Top 4 is hardly a disappointment if they do it again.

The transfers this summer signalled their firm intent for a title push - a mere top-4 finish (particularly if we're talking 4th) would certainly be a disappointment overall. And that's what I'm conditioned to expect after the last decade and a half.

However, at least this first game looks to be somewhat comfortable. Arsenal leading 2-0 before halftime - goals from Nketiah and Saka (the latter is comfortably my favorite current Arsenal player with Saliba a close second).

Look at the stick Wenger got for his astonishing feat of keeping Arsenal in the Champions League for nigh on two decades, which was his remit and included the new ground costs. I do think fans of the top teams need a tad of a reality check, they are all so privileged. I would be more than happy with a second tier top half finish. 5 minutes ago quite a few Arsenal fans wanted Arteta's head

I would be more than happy with a second tier top half finish. 5 minutes ago quite a few Arsenal fans wanted Arteta's head I'm sure you would. However, different clubs have different expectations - and those expectations are constantly in flux. To settle for the mere fringe of the club's targets would be unsatisfactory at this stage of the team's development and Arteta's project. There is no reason to celebrate regression in any form, particularly because, as you note, of the growing numbers of teams gunning for constant improvement and limited Champions' League spots. Comfort breeds complacency and with that, a lack of development. Arsenal have to aim high. CL qualification was last season's goal, this season's target is considerably more lofty.

Arsenal survive a late Forest push to win 2-1. I'll take it, but I'd rather extend leads where possible - better for my nerves.
I'm interested in Brighton's development this season. De Zerbi is the real deal and a CL pursuit would be fascinating from their perspective. They open against Luton in the Hatters' long-awaited return to PL action.

Good start for Newcastle. Isak is going to be a force this season if he stays healthy.

F@cking go Toons!!! Get on board. See the world in black and white (yes, that is a Collingwood slogan but I'd be surprised if Newcastle haven't used it or are even the ones that invented it).
