In theory I do like the idea that every individual is a sovereign. But these guys tend to be surly, boring and rather mad.
I agree.
But I like to ask WHERE is the line? Has it been clearly defined?
Civil libertarians differ from others, as well. Lawyers and politicians don't seem to be anywhere near agreement either
I think a certain technological level is a must for a society that can afford true individual sovereignty. Otherwise you will always have some people who are free and others who have to do all the heavy lifting. |

What scenario could exist where nobody did any heavy lifting?......especially compared to whoever happens to be the 'elite' at that time?

Well... The dawning LLM (what people call AI) era could make it possible. At some point we are going to stop using them to draw pretty pictures and write our business letter for us and will start building algorithms to automate production, resource extraction, planning, deliveries etc. |

As much as I DID help build what I have, it's crazy and massively egotistical to believe I did it all myself.
Unless I want to live as a hermit out hiding on federal lands, I need the infrastructure, the utilities, etc.

Isn't that inalienable rights line from the American Declaration of independence? So those inalienable rights recognized by the US are not necessarily recognized by other nations, nor are they actually American since we were not a nation at the time.

Why should other nations recognize them? I certainly do not expect everyone to abide the the rules we set up here.
So nothing really counted before at least 1776? if not later, after the Revolutionary War ended?
We were British citizens before our independence which we fought for because we felt they were not treating us fairly. |

There's an in between spot, imo........which leans more towards you did it yourself. imho
Because, George Bailey..........without YOU.........none of what you've built would have been done.
Sure, someone else can do some of the hings you do, and the overall results might be similar. But YOU did what you did.

I'm one of those inconsequential folk. There's a ton of us. The vast majority, in fact.
Yet, I still think of myself as an Individual, first. And I'm baffled by those who push the opposite viewpoint.
