One popular author at school was Sven Hassel. Although I didn’t read any of his books personally. I also read a few of those. In a way these types of books were the forerunners of video nasties and games like Grand Theft Auto, full of sex, violence and all the rest.

In the end they weren’t that essential but I thought this board was getting too quiet and needed some sex and violence to wake it up.

Holy mahoney. That's about as subtle as a sledgehammer . If that didn't win Title of the Year some place or another, somebody's asleep at the wheel.

With these pulp paperbacks the taglines are frequently better than the titles.

Okay, not trying to be pretentious, but it's true, I read Dostoevsky and James Baldwin in high school - for leisure. At school it was "Vanity Fair" and F Scott Fitzgerald.

When I was in prison I remember reading some horrible 1950's book about a princess bride. It had a cheesy cover.

Oh gosh, it’s like I was like almost every other kid at the time. Anyway, if you can’t play the game I’ll have to do it for you.

I don't play games. And not everyone posted covers. PaulsLaugh posted about objectification of women.

They didn’t post pics (just noticed that Pauls did post a pic) but kept to the subject being discussed.

Has it ever entered your head that sometimes folks post what they want to post, because they can't relate to the specifics of your OP? I skimmed the thread, wasn't aware of your strict guidelines for comment, and posted what I read in high school. Deal with it.
