It's in the maybe stage. Kid expressed interest, but I haven't been given a time or place.
It's getting good reviews, but also bad so mixed.
RT has it at 83%

We didn't need the first remake. Why do we need a second? Gene Wilder, Peter Ostrum and Jack Albertson were perfect. Wonka is a prequel.

I thought all the Wonkas were sadistic creeps. Enslaving midgets, being nonchalant about little kids possibly getting killed, running an unsafe factory with the most dangerous working conditions on Earth, being dishonest the entire time. If I was a judge, I'd exile him to Northern Alaska with the riff raff who post on the Politics board.

Love the Ompa Lumpas. Don't spoil my childhood.

Only if the twist is he becomes a Jigsaw-like sadist that intentionally tries to kill everyone with riddiculous contraptions in his factory I’d probably watch that.

Just Casey, I don't care what you named your Willy, I do not care to see your Wonka.

I enjoyed it. Kid said it was good because one could tell there was genuine love for the story. I laughed a couple times. Smiled a lot. There are differences, but Wonka was a bit of a liar, wasn't he?

I have never seen the original one with Gene Wilder, only the Tim Burton one with Johnny Depp, but I'll go see this new one over the holidays, sure. Dude watch the one with Gene Wilder. Infinitely superior to anything thsts come after.

I am going to pass on this one. If I wanted to see a Willy Wonka film - which I don't, I would watch the version with Gene Wilder.

Wilder kept Wonka human. Depp was a cartoon, and this new one looks like he’s so affected he may as well be from another planet. Meh. Drop took it into bizarre surreal mode and it’s like he was parodying Michael Jackson.

Not interested in this Willy Wokea. Because Slugworth is a black man & some of the cops are black?
