Ernst Janning: "Judge Haywood, the reason I asked you to come: Those people, those millions of people... I never knew it would come to that. You *must* believe it, You must believe it! Judge Dan Haywood: Herr Janning, it "came to that" the first time you sentenced a man to death you knew to be innocent. One of the most powerful moments in the film (and the last dialogue spoken in it, if I recall). A part of that power lies in the simplicity with which it's played, and in Tracy's always pitch-perfect delivery. In this instance, he does it with a combination of the gentle patience with which you explain something to a child, an undertone of isn't-it-obvious condescension and, ultimately, pity, all wrapped within the weariness of observing unnecessary tragedy on an enormous scale, yet with determination that it never happen again. All in one line and one sincere reading. Judgement at Nuremberg is like an all-you-can-eat acting buffet offering something for every taste. And the expression on Burt Lancaster's face. The "you are right, I am wrong and I see that now" look.
Lancaster gets grief from some for sitting like a lump for 2/3 of the film. It just makes it more powerful when Maximilian Schell's character goes off the rail and he yells "Herr Rolfe, are we going to do this again?" The movie changes on that one line, that one word, "this".
I love the way Schell, after reading Holmes' opinion of the Virginia eugenics case, shuts the lawbook with one hand. Almost a mic drop

My Cousin VinnyWith the use of a playing card, Vinny explains that how you see something can alter your perception of what you see. "The D.A.'s got to build a case. Building a case is like building a house. Each piece of evidence is just another building block. He wants to make a brick bunker of a building...He's going to show you the bricks. He'll show you they got straight sides. He'll show you how they got the right shape. He'll show them to you in a very special way, so that they appear to have everything a brick should have. But there's one thing he's not gonna show you. When you look at the bricks from the right angle, they're as thin as this playing card."What reminded me of My Cousin Vinny today was this: I was just watching an episode of What's My Line from 1960. Panelist Tony Randall was questioning a contestant from whom he had elicited that the service he performs is connected with athletics. "Is it a service for, umm, youths," Randall asked, and then added, "Yutes, as we say?"
