"All of life's riddles are answered in the movies." - Steve Martin in Grand Canyon
"We all go a little mad sometimes." - Anthony Perkins in Psycho
"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." - Al Pacino in The Godfather Part II
An old friend from the original IMDB kicked off a thread on another site with Martin's quote above as the jumping-off point, so I thought I'd steal borrow import the idea to see what y'all here had to say on the topic. What things have you heard in movies that stuck with you, sounding smart and/or true, or actually turned out to be smart and/or true or once sounded smart and/or true and taught you something by turning out to be bull@#$%?
Please deposit your pearls of movie wisdom below. I thank you.

From Lawrence of Arabia - "You can do what you want, but you can't want what you want." (Which I understand as "you can't choose what you want.")

James Dean’s personal motto was “Live fast, die young, and leave a good looking corpse.” But what movie (admired by Dean) did the quote originate in? {Spoiler} Knock On Any Door (1949) I like a girl in a bikini. No concealed weapons - Christopher Lee as The Man With The Golden Gun Ralphie Parker: I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200 shot range, model air rifle! Dept. Store Santa: You'll shoot your eye out, kid. - A Christmas Story "Lie? But why, when the truth is so much more fun?" -- Dustin Hoffman as Hook

Two from HARVEY
Elwood P. Dowd: Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.
The Taxi Driver: He's going to come out of there a perfectly normal human being, and you know what stinkers they are.

Three more before bed.
"The years don't bring wisdom; they just bring old age." - Henry Fonda in My Name Is Nobody
"Its not the years, it's the mileage."-- Indiana Jones, Raiders Of The Lost Ark
"That's one of the tragedies of this life, that the men who are most in need of a beating are always enormous." Rudy Vallee, on Claudette Colbert's husband in "The Palm Beach Story" (1942).

And that leads to a juicy trivia question. In what film after Lawrence of Arabia (also non-fiction) is a person recounted as allowing his hand to be burned by a candle and when asked "What's the trick" responds "The trick is not minding."?

I can only think that Liddy must have seen Lawrence of Arabia and thought "What a great way to impress people!"
