I still don't understand the logic of anyone claiming Earth's seasons are caused by distance from the sun when the southern and northern hemispheres have opposite seasons. Earth's distance from the sun changes but wherever it is in its orbit both hemispheres are the same distance. I agree. Some people are very uneducated. As i stated before, the distance to the sun DOES account for temperature changes but it its so minute that it doesnt matter as far as the Earth is concerned. People are thinking that the distance change is enough to be a factor in the seasons. it is NOT. Thats what their logic is As i said many times the angle and the focusing of the solar rays changes the seasons due to axis tilt mars is farther away from the sun than the earth- it only gets a fraction of the solar rays- thus the maximum temp is far less( plus there is far less atmosphere density in Mars to retain it in) They think because Mercury and Venus are hotter and closer and Mars is farther and colder than the earth that the elliptical orbit makes a great difference. As I stated, it does not- not really. Thats their logic- but their logic has flaws becuase they dont understand solar radiation works through a vacuum.

I agree, but I can't understand how anyone can see the Mercury, Venus and Mars facts as related to Earth's seasons (seeing as they are opposites in the northern and summer hemispheres). If someone is aware of opposite seasons opposite hemispheres there's no logic in thinking distance from the sun is a cause of the seasons.

Its simple- They think that the closer you are to the heat source( sun ) that this affects the seasons While it affects overall mean temps, it doesnt really affect our seasons

I still don't know how that would make sense on a planet with seasons that are different in different hemispheres. Obviously the northern hemisphere is the same distance from the sun as the southern one is at any given time.
