The new names of London's six Overground lines have been revealed, significantly changing the look of the famous Tube map. Last August, Transport for London (TfL) announced it wanted to give the routes distinct identities to make it easier for passengers to navigate the network. The services will become known as the Lioness line; the Mildmay line; the Windrush line; the Weaver line; the Suffragette line; and the Liberty line. Each will also have its own colour. TfL said it had worked with customers, stakeholders, historians, industry experts and local communities, with the names representing the areas the lines travel through, while marking London's history and cultural diversity. The Suffragette line: Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside - Named to celebrate how London's East End working-class community fought for women's rights, the line also runs to Barking, home of the longest-surviving suffragette, Annie Huggett, who died aged 103. On the map it will be marked with green parallel lines www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68296483

I thought they just might have found the Lioness line acceptable, but no. Silly me!

I did sigh and tut a bit thinking of how it looks like naming the lines is part of a healing process but it makes a change from naming lines after royalty (Victoria, Jubilee and Elizabeth). The nickname for the soon-to-be Suffragette Line used to be the Goblin Line (Gospel Oak to Barking) but you can’t expect upper management to have a sense of humour.

The lines are pre-existing, they’re just being rebranded to make things less confusing for the easily confused. Sorry! I need to work on my sarcasm more. I actually travelled on the 'Mildmay' line once, all the way between Richmond and Stratford - it was my commute for a brief while and I was experimenting to see whether it might be quicker than overland to Waterloo, then the Drain, then the Central Line. It wasn't! Stopped everywhere and took absolutely sodding ages.
