As some of you know I have a middle school aged daughter. She likes a boy at school named Aiden, but Aiden barely takes any notice of her. Her brilliant plan to win him over is this: She is going to flirt with other boys. She can't flirt with him because she is shy, but she will flirt with other boys. I was about to tell her what a bad idea that is and chalk it up to her youth and inexperience, but mom interjects saying "That's right, men love to be jealous!" Do women really think that men think this way?!?! The only signal she will be sending to Aiden is "I like this other boy and not you". There is no telling how many couples that could have been together didn't end up together, and how many women that didn't get the guy they wanted, because of this scatterbrain thinking. Your daughter needs to realize that if a guy is not interested then he's NOT interested. Find someone else to like. If she's pretty or even close to being pretty it won't take very long to find a replacement.

Thats not entirely true with the first point. Nothing is serious at that age. Theres just not enough maturity. Think about yourself at that age

Judging by some behaviour I’ve seen being clueless is natural to our species.

There were a load of boys at my school who were popular. They were not the ones who made it. They went to parties, but they fucked up in their exams. I was a complete book dork at school and never got anywhere girl-wise, but I got somewhere job-wise. I hope your daughter understands this. So you're saying you're ugly.? No, I was just very shy and focused on doing well at school.

So you're saying you're ugly.? No, I was just very shy and focused on doing well at school. She’s using confirmation bias which mean anything you say that goes against her narrative will be ignored.

I would’ve just assumed (at that age) that she didn’t like me and move on.

Please stop disrespecting your daughter in public. Well it's not public, this is anonymous, but what does Pilar the Love Doctor advise she do?

She has other boys that like her, Holden and Nicholas, but she won't even consider them.

Is my advice (find someone else, if she insists on Aiden be direct with him) bad? I don't think that us terrible advice for a father to give to his daughter. But you're probably just trying to be combative with me for no real reason.

You can’t even see the breach of love and protection that a father is suppose to naturally have his daughter. You know who she is, you can know every freckle on her face, as the men on this board watch you insult her. Obviously, you do not respect or love her, but think she’s just another “clueless woman.” God help, that little girl. I hope she survives you.

Being clueless comes natural to 12 year olds, it's totally forgivable. I could be less charitable towards her mother encouraging nonsense but I'm really not bothered by that either. So what do you think? Flirt with other boys in an attempt to make Aiden jealous, or move on to greener pastures? Love isn't always giving comfort, sometimes it's telling you what you do not want to hear. I'd never call her clueless but I think she should find another boy.
