He played lights out!! So where are all the NBA teams who can play, aside from the Celtics? What is going on? Do we blame the virus? The vaccine? Why does everybody, 25 year-old Luka included, play a good streak and then like a half-dead dog? I know injuries happen, but I’ve never seen a postseason where every single team but one was beat up and gassed out before the finals even started. Have you? Am I forgetting? 🤔 🤷♀️ **full disclosure: I basically copy pasted this from where I just now posted it to tommyrockarolla whom I’m now tagging in hopes we can consolidate the convo here since the other place was on Politics where I went off topic to mention 🏀 yesterday I believe these guys are more and more athletic every year, and the game moves faster and faster to put fannies in the seats. Add to this the size of 'player contracts', and? You have teams who don't want to blow up the career of say, a Joelle Embiid, and be on the hook for a 150 million investment to a player who can't walk anymore. I would say the top teams in the East seem to have been very injury prone this year. I don’t know. I don’t think they have the endurance and the foundation of better health and strength that we should be seeing. But then I have to self snitch and admit that I’m essentially a postseason viewer at best as I don’t really look at an NBA game if there are NCAA games to be had. NBA regular season is anathema to me. 😂 So do you think they wear themselves out during the regular season more so than players did in the past? Definitely great point about sitting out injured players in a more responsible way than ever. You see that in college ball as well. It’s so important. And your point about the East, it’s like the East was more injury prone and the West… forgot to show up?? Ahhh, my anti-love for the West bleeding through. I can pretend I know.

I think it's a combination of team investment (finances), and almost supernatural athleticism. For the record, I'm not one of these "back in the old days" type guys when it comes to pro athletics. These guys are super trained, weight room, aerobics, cardio, etc. I believe they are physically capable of more than in years past, and it increases every generation, as time goes by. They're just performing at such a high level, lose one step? And it shows glaringly. I'm talking strictly athleticism. Would Michael Jordan, Jabbar, etc, be great today? Probably, but they'd have access to the same training these guys have. It's the march of time. The "Four Minute Mile" was some unicorn like shit which wasn't likely to happen 100 years ago. It's at 3:43 now, step by step over the years. But I don't think human bodies, in general, are markedly different than they were years ago: just the training, and the ability to get 'quicker', if not necessarily 'faster', but that as well. And they still break at the same rate stress. These guys feet are really "pounding the pavement" with more bad intentions than ever, but the bones and tendons still twist up. I'd say this: if you took a Pro Football Hall of Fame lineman from 1955, and "Star Trek" transported his ass, as is, to 2024? I'm not sure he'd make a Big Ten Team in the NCAA. I guess another analogy would be two hammers, same wooden handle, one hammerhead weighs 16oz, the other 18. Two guys of equal ability, the guy with the 18 oz head is likely to home more nails faster because of less swings. But the handle most likely to break first is also the 18 oz, because it's handling more stress. It's hard to explain, all of it, but there's my shot, lol.

I don’t know, I think perhaps the peak was a few years ago in terms of average strength, stamina and overall game performance. Think of Dirk Nowitzki. Theoretical comparisons are one thing, but how do you think Nowitzki compares to the players who are stars right now? Or even how someone who is still playing compares, like Kevin Durant. How do you think Kevin Durant’s peak seasons compare to the 23-24 seasons of other top tier players? I think the NBA down slide has begun.

What we thinkin? Celtics in 4? What happened to the NBA, y’all??? Both games were not that exciting so far. I switched to the Yankees game in the 2nd quarter and return after the Yankees game. Mavs was about to make the comeback, but too little too late. They must win on Wed to make this series interesting.

Xi must be behind this somehow!! E’erybody gassed out before the Conference Finals. Stop making me feel sorry for injured millionaires, NBA!!* And: Go Yankees!!! Noice. *On this topic, what do you think of my other posts on this page? It’s just weirdly lackluster and lethargic Finals and Conference Finals. And apparently I need a reason 🤪

Celtics was expected to be in the Finals. Would have been nice if they had to run through the healthy Knicks. Watching the ECF, we can see Pacers shouldn't be there. I don't find Celtics an exciting team. Who in the Celtics draws a crowd? Tatum? Porzingis? Brown? They were lucky enough, or well-planned enough, to have Porzingis to play the Finals. I don't know, they may not get pass a healthy Knicks without Porzingis.
I understand that Luka has been hurt all season. What he was able to squeeze out to carry this team into the Finals is incredible. Dallas was not the team to be considered championship contender. It was OKC, TWolves, or Denver. Dallas & Luka got into a good run and was able to get past all those teams that are more exciting match for Celtics. It was an exciting run. The midnight clock may be striking. It is not a good match so far in the Finals.
Finally, I don't remember so many blow-outs in an NBA playoff year. Yes, there were some wacky finishes like the two Knicks-Sixers games. The Murray buzzer-beater. Dallas won a few close game when the other team ran out of timeout. Many of the games were practically over by the 3rd quarter. There were not that many grinding games that with hard fought defense that went down to the wire. This could be the worse NBA playoff season for a long time. I thought the games seem dull due to my mood, but looks like others are feeling the same. I like to see Mavs win a close game on Wed to make this Finals exciting.

I have the same problem almost every year with the finals. Too bloated, too many teams that don't belong and most of the time the championship goes to a team that has a strangle hold on the league for a few years. Bucks and Nuggets winning was a breath of fresh air!

It's probably 'put a fork in them' time. When your best player who never fouls out, fouls out with 4 minutes left in the biggest game of the year? It's a sign "you can't stop the other guys". I may or may not watch game 4. If I'm around a TV, then yes.

Haven't missed anything, I guess.
Just Kidd stopping his own team's 20-2 run by calling time out.

This game feel kind of fixed so far so that the Celtics can win at home. I was just thinking this!! I’m like: Black Sox much? 🤔 I’m nothing if not topical with my references. 🤪 Gotta keep that sports ball broadcasting machine running! But you make a much more relevant specific point. That seems the most likely motivation for a kind of Just let them win type game play.

The Stanley Cup isn't that much better. At least there were some close games.
