'Future' does not mean life has been there long. It's a relatively nascent planet compared to Earth. Hence, lifeforms are simpler. I think he meant the humans should have nukes. Which they did. Of course, humans were actually trying to set up colonies in the bug planets not just trying to destroy the bugs.

Fighting alien bugs on a planet in a future that should have advanced nukes sent from space instead isn't dumb?
I'm not entirely sure fighting the bugs is why they were there.
It had more to do with capturing a certain type of bug. They were trying to set up colonies in the bug planets, not just defeat the bugs so it makes no sense to render the bug planets uninhabitable. I mean it's heavily implied that the bugs are only acting self defense and that humans are the aggressors in the movie. Hell the asteroid that destroys in Bueno Aires probably wasn't even launched by the bugs. We just assume so because the propaganda network says so.

A plot about humans leaving a safe planet to move to a giant bug planet isn't making the film less dumb.

It's actually extremely clever because it's a movie about the government using war to take advantage of dumb people.

Starship Troopers was dumb fun nothing wrong with that the conversation started when someone called another movie dumb in the first place while liking Starship Troopers. Which was funny.

They use a tactical nuke in the movie. At the expense of human lives. When? There is only one scene involving a nuke and no human is killed.

At the expense of human lives. When? There is only one scene involving a nuke and no human is killed. The point was to not send anyone there and to use nukes instead, if you're using nukes and still sending people there it's pointless.

Well the problem is that the bugs were using tunnels and staying underground where nukes are not exactly useful. They wanted to colonize the planets so nuking them would render them uninhabitable.

While 1987 has many classics, 1985 takes the gold. Here's just some of the movies:
Commando Rambo: First Blood Part 2 Red Sonja Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome Code of Silence Invasion USA Missing in Action 2: The Beginning Death Wish 3 The Last Dragon A View to a Kill
And that is just some of the classics from 1985

A planet full of giant alien bugs would already be uninhabitable.
