I think an argument could be made for 1987, that year gave us:
Evil Dead II Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Hellraiser Near Dark The Lost Boys The Monster Squad

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Those fast-moving zombies made the movie fire, surpassing the awesomeness of the original.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) Those fast-moving zombies made the movie fire, surpassing the awesomeness of the original. I'm firmly in the slow moving zombies camp. Fast moving zombies aren't particularly differentiated from any number of other movie monsters.

1982 Poltergeist and The Thing. That is only one good movie. Also The House Where Evil Dwells starring Doug McClure. I swear you dissed him once on the other board.

Well, it's the difference between zombies that can kill you in an instant and ones that you can just walk away from. Also, the 2004 movie had a Burt Reynolds zombie.
