What do you think is the main idea of... Let's start with an easy one. What do you think is the main idea of Judaism, Christianity, Islam? Each one separately, of course... The main idea of all three is how to live a good life. As an individual. And as part of a community. That's... Broadly accurate, in my opinion.

Is that belief wrong? It's a dialectic view on history, which was refined by Hegel and adopted by Marx. And history can be interpreted as such. It is wrong. It's an intellectual fancy which has no basis in human nature. So, where do we go when we die if not Heaven?

Judaism produces the best comedians. Christians and Muslims aren't as funny. I think you'll find that it's not as much Judaism as the Ashkenazi cultural baggage. Salient point. Too many people conflate Ashkenazi with Jewish. Judaism is a religion. Asheknazi is an ethnic group. Ashkenazi can be atheists. Jews can be black, white or Semitic.

The movie was interesting, but had problems such as that. How one could study religion & come to the idea the point is control is crazy. Me & Bobby McGee Performed by the guy that wrote it I do believe a lot of religion becomes control, but I also feel by that point they have become less about the message from God , more what is best for the preacher pushing the line. Like Alice has a line "I preached a sermon damning sin & vice when underneath i was a regular guy. My pulpit melted like a block of ice when the bolt of lightning struck it from the sky" (Nurse Rosetta. Interesting song. Alice has called his songs character portraits & this is one. The preacher projects all sorts of stuff onto his nurse in the song but its all him)
I suppose it's okay if "science" is trying to control people? Because that is what they really and truly have to do? If science says you need an electric car now, then you do need one now. It isn't really "Democrats" trying to control you, it's the universe. Is that it? Did I get that right?
I heard a funny criticism of people "lost in thought." It goes, "People get lost in thought because it's new territory."
I hope people don't feel that I am trying to control them. For one thing I am not. My goal is to read the pressures from the inanimate universe, the needs imposed by nature, and help society devise an appropriate response to those. That is what I hope I am doing anyway.

The two most important teachings, in my opinion:
Love thy neighbor as thyself
Whatsoever you do to the least of my brother that you do unto me
Follows these rules. If you do, then I don't believe God holds it against you for not being a believer. That will come in the hereafter.
And if there is no hereafter, we'll then you will never know it. But you still left the earth on good terms with her.

I think fundamentally it's not so much about victimhood but rather about being conditioned to believe that the entire history of humanity is nothing but a power struggle of variously defined identity groups.
Jordan Peterson discussed this. Academia has been instructing everyone in terms of oppressor/oppressed. And the real value is in being the victim. At all times.
You obviously did not go to school with me.

There were a few issues with that movie. Such as hells bells, the 2 Mormon missionary gals were woefully unprepared/uninformed on the issues Mr. Reed brought up. I know my seminary teacher taught us the proper responses. And the sad idea that studying religion for decades led Mr Reed (Read) to the conclusion the one true religion was control. My feeling is if one looks at the major religions, the message is helping one's fellow man. I am sorry but what are you talking about? What movie? The one i have mentioned in almost every answer i have posted on this thread Mr Reed was a student of religion in college. As an older gentleman by the time the movie begins, he has invited a pair of missionaries to sell their faith. At one point he presents a similar point to yours-the 3 major Abrahamic faiths with the Jewish faith making up a smaller number of worshippers, posing the question of why?

To help overcome human beings' fear of death by falsely promising them an afterlife while pretending to offer the rubes something profound.

No, and I am not RFK. I do not make any sweeping criticism of all health care. I have health care myself. So far I have no cancer, but I am certain they will let me know if I ever get cancer. If anything needs to be cut out, they will cut it out. I have a relative who is profoundly concerned I am not being tested. I am being tested. I get regular checkups.
I am not a Trump base bad boy. I don't hate all authority. I don't hate science. I happen to have some talent for science, math, and computer programming. Over the many years I learned to program in C++, Perl, Python, Javascript, PHP, several of Microsoft's "Basic" languages, and several languages that are not as versatile as all those are. I also have a handheld "programmable" calculator I usually use separately, but it can connect by USB to my desktop computer.
I have little or no data on prior vaccines, maybe RFK does, but I did watch the news daily on covid. I crunched the numbers as the expression goes. I only criticize those specific numbers that do not fit the overall patterns in the numbers. I have no confidence in RFK to do that.
Some of the obvious errors I have found are ...
1) That the temperature of the entire atmosphere of Earth can be measured to within 2 degrees. The problem of getting that much accuracy is that there are 2.3 billion cubic miles of atmosphere and that is only counting the first 12 miles above the surface. There will likely be a problem known as undersampling. That does not mean the globe is not warming. That is so important I will say it twice. That does not mean the globe is not warming. It only means that some of the people arguing that the globe is warming are not using proper methods. The globe could in fact be warming but they have no skill to show that it is.
2) That reductions in polar ice mean the globe is warming. Again the globe might indeed be warming, but reductions in polar ice are not certain indicators it is. The water in the atmosphere is put there mostly in the tropical regions. A cooling planet could mean less water is being put in the atmosphere. Polar ice can be sublimated by direct sunlight even if the planet is slightly cooler.
3) That the levels of carbon dioxide on the entire planet can be measured long into the past. The theory is that when air gets trapped in ice its level of carbon dioxide can be preserved for centuries. The problem with that is the same undersampling problem with temperature, but far worse. They only have one site, not thousands. Much like temperature, the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is very rapidly changing. There is a highly dynamic interchange between plants and animals.
4) That people should drive electric vehicles that get their electricity from burning fossil fuels. Using solar power makes some sense. Driving electric vehicles that do not use solar power makes no sense.
Are you seeing a pattern here? There is a push to "follow the science" by people who have no talent for science. Talk about control now. 5) Covid is far more complicated. While is does take a doctor to determine exactly how sick a person might be, any child can see who is dead or not. That is how we know the panic got out of control, was inordinate to the problem. The "death toll" was really not especially high. What clearly did happen was that the death toll dropped for decades because of improvements in health care. Then about a decade before covid it started somewhat "dramatically" and steadily rising. What does that mean? It is important to know what it means. It does not mean the quality of health care fell off. It does mean the people who were living longer because of improvements in health care had to die eventually. It was never believed they would live forever. Improvements in health care might have slowed as science got all caught up. Then those living longer eventually started dying. You can see the death toll rising in a somewhat straight line for a decade before covid then through covid. The matter is complicated by the fact that the population in years between a census must be estimated. Even so, there is no sharp rise in the death toll attributable to covid. In fact the deaths supposedly "from" covid were typically examples of comorbidity. That is, people who were going to die from something else anyway. They were very old and likely those people who lived longer because of earlier improvements in health whose time eventually ran out.
Most people with an IQ over 85 understand that. This board consists mostly of people with an IQ under 85. The evening news is dominated by people with an IQ under 85. By the way I believe that the list of errors in science I have presented here are mostly deliberate attempts to trap amateurs. I can't prove that, but it is rather easy to dismiss people who believe those things. You really should shut up, but if you don't then no sensible person is listening anyway. See how we "stifle" anyone? I think maybe there was no trap set with covid. It might well be that the amateurs managed that one all on their own.

It is wrong. It's an intellectual fancy which has no basis in human nature. So, where do we go when we die if not Heaven? When we die, when we become part of the universe. But I played the following song at my both my wife and my mother's funerals. And when my wife was dying I told her to say hullo to her parents, find my old dog Jake and wait for me to join her. I know the truth, but I want to dream while I live my every moment on earth to the fullest.

Then of course you won't have one after you die since you don't have one now.
