Wrong page. There's a page dedicated to religion. This is a politics board. 😉

Is that so? I guess it depends on dangerous to whom. Definitely dangerous to pigs, fowl and cattle that tend to end as my lunch. And if pathological anti-communists consider me dangerous, then maybe I am doing something right. "My" side hasn't killed over 100 million people. Neither have I.

Have you seen Heretic? Mr. Reed studied religion for decades & came to the belief the one true religion was control. Which was sad & empty. So it IS a conspiracy? A bunch of ancient men came together to decide how best to fool their clan or tribe? Don't you think you are confusing religion and religious institutions? There were a few issues with that movie. Such as hells bells, the 2 Mormon missionary gals were woefully unprepared/uninformed on the issues Mr. Reed brought up. I know my seminary teacher taught us the proper responses. And the sad idea that studying religion for decades led Mr Reed (Read) to the conclusion the one true religion was control. My feeling is if one looks at the major religions, the message is helping one's fellow man.

It’s the same for all three. Control over people. Mostly women. In all three. That was the central point of Heretic.
It seems sometimes that the purpose of religion is to give people who have no religion the illusion that they are wise.
I'm sorry. It's Saturday and I am not focusing well for some reason. And there is a song in my head, an "earworm" some call it, "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose."

The movie was interesting, but had problems such as that. How one could study religion & come to the idea the point is control is crazy. Me & Bobby McGee Performed by the guy that wrote it I do believe a lot of religion becomes control, but I also feel by that point they have become less about the message from God , more what is best for the preacher pushing the line. Like Alice has a line "I preached a sermon damning sin & vice when underneath i was a regular guy. My pulpit melted like a block of ice when the bolt of lightning struck it from the sky" (Nurse Rosetta. Interesting song. Alice has called his songs character portraits & this is one. The preacher projects all sorts of stuff onto his nurse in the song but its all him)

What do you think is the main idea of... Let's start with an easy one. What do you think is the main idea of Judaism, Christianity, Islam? Each one separately, of course... The main idea of each religion is that it is the only true religion and all the other religions are false or incomplete.

I suppose it's okay if "science" is trying to control people? Because that is what they really and truly have to do? If science says you need an electric car now, then you do need one now. It isn't really "Democrats" trying to control you, it's the universe. Is that it? Did I get that right?
I heard a funny criticism of people "lost in thought." It goes, "People get lost in thought because it's new territory."
I hope people don't feel that I am trying to control them. For one thing I am not. My goal is to read the pressures from the inanimate universe, the needs imposed by nature, and help society devise an appropriate response to those. That is what I hope I am doing anyway.

Try to be kind to each other and that you may be rewarded when you die by going to some paradise. Also recognize that one has flaws ie sins. That there will be tests. Christianity anyway. Even, the Bible itself isnt flawless from what I understand. There will always be people that exploit some of its messages for their own ends. There are the ignorant too.
Isnt it kind of the core message of all religions? To try to be a good person. Be peaceful

The main idea of each religion is that it is the only true religion and all the other religions are false or incomplete. Not necessarily. The teachings of Christ were clearly presented as an interpretation of the God of Israel. And Muhammad saw himself as the new and final prophet of both Judaism and Christianity. Churches compete but holy books are written for other reasons.

I'll go: Judaism - God made covenant with Abraham, and by performing a set of specific actions you can become one of the chosen Christianity - God has a very personal relationship with every human Islam - everything is controlled by God and it is one's duty to make sure all humans submit to His will Christianity - Salvation through belief in the resurrection of Jesus.
Teachings of Christ then. I am not a scholar but even in the (currently believed to be fully fictional) account of Ancient Hebrews' conquest of Canaan there are examples of them demanding from their enemies to convert. And, of course, the Hasmoneans forcefully converted a bunch of minorities within their borders.
