Was just on Twitter. Saw a post asking if you were 15 again, what would you tell your younger self? I replied I’d tell 15-yo me to off myself then and there, as life has only gotten worse for me. (And while 4 more years of Trump plays a very minuscule role in that, remember it’s still a very teeny-tiny portion. I have an abundance of other circumstances that led me to this conclusion.) As soon as I sent it, I got notified it is against TOS to threaten others and my account is now locked for a week. My 1st time in Twitter jail and I’ve no idea who and how I’m threatening/wishing death on other posters. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?? It's probably just an algorithm that registers key words and phrases... I'm sure it just saw "kill yourself"/ "kill myself" and reacted. |

The wording of the automated notification could use some work.
But the clinical standard on which it is likely based states "harm to self or others".
You should talk to someone about those feelings...a professional, not randos on the internet.

Speaking of Suicide is NOT posing a threat to someone else, which is the rule they twisted themselves into knots over, claiming I violated that section of the TOS. Less reactionary, more comprehension, Lux. Well, Lux is indeed an asshole and there was no need to call you that (and ironically out of all things, "dumbass" which he is the epitome of) but I agree encouraging suicide would be the reason they'd see your tweet as a no-no. That's not saying that was your intention and I know it wasn't. I'm just looking at it from the perspective of a social media platform with 100s of millions of people from around the world. From their perspective, there could be anyone out there looking for any final reason to end it, in a vulnerable state of mind whose desire to live rides on hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel, where a message like that is something they might read as the opposite of what they need to hear from someone who already lived those years confirming that no, there's no hope and life ahead really sucks and is not worth living. That said, please take care of yourself and keep your chin up. We love you here. |

I can understand why they did it. You told yourself, as a minor, to kill herself! If she’d gone through with it that would have screwed up the future, and you may find yourself spookily disappearing from like photos and stuff. They made a movie about that in the '80s as a warning.
