Bad casting Joaquin Phoenix is to old to play Napoleon and Vanessa Kirby is to young to play Josephine. In real life Josephine was 6 years older than Napoleon, Joaquin Phoenix is 14 years older than Vanessa Kirby Both good actors, but one is to old and the other is to young. It`s the same as with other movies Mank (2020) which is a movie with the real life Herman Mankewicz who was married to Sara. In real life Sara was 2 months older than Herman, but in the movie they cast Gary Oldeman as Herman and Tuppence Middleton as Sara. and Gary Oldman is 29 years older than Tuppence Middleton. And the movie the Dig (2021) which is also about real people. Basil Brown and Edith Pretty in real life Edith Pretty was 5 years older than Basil Brown. but in the movie we have Ralph Finnes playing Basil Brown and he is 23 years older than Carey Mulligan who plays Edith Pretty. Phoenix though is a phenomenal actor and looks right for the role. We’ll just have to suspend our disbelief on the age disparity between the two. And the actor will have to age. Nappy was 24 at Toulon and 43 when he beat feet out of Russia.
I'm wondering if we get the sympathetic Nappy who wrote laws and never started a war or Bloodthirsty Bonaparte who rampaged over Europe and left it a ruin?

They could not get a short French dude to play him? They probably wanted a star. The French are going to be enraged to find out an AMERICAN is playing their national hero. Napoleon was not French, he was Corsican. And his family was more Italian than French.

A lot of Germans had a shitfit when Tom Cruise got to play Claus von Stauffenburg in Valkyrie. The Scientology has something to do with it. But I thought Cruise was very good in that film

And his family was more Italian than French. Yes everyone knows he was from Corsica but the French consider him French because Corsica was part of France then. It still is today. He was for all intents and purposes French.

I’ll definitely check it out. I do wish Stanley Kubrick had a crack at it: it’s the one movie he did all his research for, but never was able to make. His cultural and visual research of kinda resulted in “Barry Lyndon”, but the stories are ‘apples and oranges’.

Ok. Well I expect him to be played by a POC. I know your saying that supposedly as a joke, but I think you would have been fine if a POC had been cast. Not gonna lie, the same way trump humpers like to "own da wibz," I get some amusement at seeing cons and the alt right scream about "dis show iz woke! Why dey cast a black man az duh Duuk of Wellington!"

But there is still a country called Macedonia and it is easy to confuse that with being Alexander's Macedonia....with Napoleon, few people know he was actually Corsican and Italian nobility....

Where? At my front door? Oh poo. I guess I have to move and I really don't want to. I mean, I could try and defend but like they say, "Never bring a baseball bat to a canon fight."

Yeah, but there was naming dispute between Macedonia and Greece. They eventually changed the name to North Macedonia in order to join NATO.
