The best part. No randomly out of place minorities or race swaps. They did a filtrum swap, though. The real Napoleon never had a harelip!

Well my grandmother told me, I don't care what school tells you, Napoleon was Black. This is decent breakdown of why that show was trash if you're interested. I may or may not have seen it, but even if I have, thanks for the thought. I will check it out.

It does look like it might try to cover too much. Definitely shows Bonaparte at the Siege of Toulon in 1793. In Egypt in 1798. Taking the throne in 1804. The last scenes looked very wintry, so that would seem to be the Invasion of Russia in 1812. Awful lot to cram into a 158 minutes. It does look fucking incredible. Bonaparte was incredible, he fought over 80 battles and lost nine, only two of them being a big deal, Leipzig in 1813 and Waterloo It seemed to me the wintry scenes at the end were meant to be Austerlitz.

The Duke would not have won, if BlΓΌcher had not arrived in the nick of time. The British would have lost if the Prussians had not arrived.

Also only 15% of the soldiers in the battle of Waterloo was British, most of the soldiers where Germans and Prussians (73%) and Dutch (12%)
Waterloo was really a German/Prussian victory.

It looked like a big crossing of a frozen river. That couldn't be Austerlitz but it could be Berezina.
I loved the BBC miniseries of War and Peace but didn't like the Austerlitz scenes shot in mid summer

The Duke would not have won, if BlΓΌcher had not arrived in the nick of time. The British would have lost if the Prussians had not arrived. Bonaparte could have annihilated Wellington and Blucher and it wouldn't have mattered. The Austrian general Karl von Schwartenburg was coming with 225,000 and the Russians under Barclay de Tolly were coming with nearly 190,000. Napoleon had 125,000 at Waterloo and lost half of them. He might have brought up more reserves to get to 125,000 but he couldn't beat both the Austrian and the Russians.

And I don't have any wine and cheese to serve him.
Um...Mr. Napoleon sir? Will you take a root beer?

Itβs a shame Daniel Day Lewis is (supposedly) retired: heβd have had the commitment to take 8 inches off his height and 20 years off his age for this. Weβd have found him living as a cheese monger in the French countryside for research.

I was thinking of the story of Napoleon turning his cannon onto the Russians fleeing over the frozen lake towards the end of the battle. Will find out in a few months I guess.
