Because he spoke Greek, was educated in Greek culture, and ruled Greeks with many of his Macedonians marrying Greek. He was also born in present day Greece. Excellent point.

The best part. No randomly out of place minorities or race swaps.

It does look like it might try to cover too much. Definitely shows Bonaparte at the Siege of Toulon in 1793. In Egypt in 1798. Taking the throne in 1804. The last scenes looked very wintry, so that would seem to be the Invasion of Russia in 1812. Awful lot to cram into a 158 minutes. It does look fucking incredible. Bonaparte was incredible, he fought over 80 battles and lost nine, only two of them being a big deal, Leipzig in 1813 and Waterloo Some of it could be a montage or a short flashback/s

Bad casting Joaquin Phoenix is to old to play Napoleon and Vanessa Kirby is to young to play Josephine. In real life Josephine was 6 years older than Napoleon, Joaquin Phoenix is 14 years older than Vanessa Kirby Both good actors, but one is to old and the other is to young. It`s the same as with other movies Mank (2020) which is a movie with the real life Herman Mankewicz who was married to Sara. In real life Sara was 2 months older than Herman, but in the movie they cast Gary Oldeman as Herman and Tuppence Middleton as Sara. and Gary Oldman is 29 years older than Tuppence Middleton. And the movie the Dig (2021) which is also about real people. Basil Brown and Edith Pretty in real life Edith Pretty was 5 years older than Basil Brown. but in the movie we have Ralph Finnes playing Basil Brown and he is 23 years older than Carey Mulligan who plays Edith Pretty. Phoenix though is a phenomenal actor and looks right for the role. We’ll just have to suspend our disbelief on the age disparity between the two. He was damn good as Commodus

One would have to be off-the-charts stupid to wish the role had been given to a non-white actor. They could not get a short French dude to play him? Apparently he was average height for the time

They probably wanted a star. The French are going to be enraged to find out an AMERICAN is playing their national hero. A lot of Germans had a shitfit when Tom Cruise got to play Claus von Stauffenburg in Valkyrie. The Scientology has something to do with it. But I thought Cruise was very good in that film
From memory it was also to do with mannerisms and how the German privileged acted? Wasnt a good portrayal

I'm very interested in seeing this since it reunites Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix. Gladiator was certainly a hit. Phoenix received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Commodus.

Well my grandmother told me, I don't care what school tells you, Napoleon was Black. This is decent breakdown of why that show was trash if you're interested.

Yes everyone knows he was from Corsica but the French consider him French because Corsica was part of France then. It still is today. He was for all intents and purposes French. The Greeks claim Alexander the Great when he is technically "Macedonian' True but he was born in Pella in the ancient Kingdom of Macedon which today is located in the Greek administrative region Central Macedonia, so Alexander the Great was born in what is Greece. I think that is why people call him Greek.
