Most people are aware of these parents being arrested for torturing their children in California. People are now talking about how to avoid this happening in the future. Some people at talking about mandatory regulations for home schooled kids. And mandatory state checks. www.newsweek.com/california-parents-accused-torturing-13-children-dressed-kids-alike-future-789364I think the neighbors should have noticed these kids were super white, really skinny, and nobody ever saw them during the day. Somebody should have called authorities (police, child welfare, etc.) and asked that they be checked out. Just to make sure everything was okay. We don't need anymore unnecessary regulations or mandatory invasion of privacy by the state. What do you think?

If you’re Dick Cheney, this is your 9/11 to declare jihad on homeschooling. Homeschool is already illegal throughout Europe. Unless you’re rich. Then you can have private tutors come to your house and that’s okay with the socialist Left.
Perris California is 100% black and Hispanic. Being homeschooled was the one and only thing that WASN’T bad in their lives.

100% the parents. Looking after someone elses kids is not another persons responsibility. Now it would have been nice of the neighbors, who said they saw skinny, very pale looking children on the lawn late at night, to give the authorities a call, but its not their responsibility. I fear where people like you are going with this.

I think neighbours should keep an eye out for each other, but that's on a voluntary basis.
Government should have a stake in responsibility for its citizens (because they pay for it).
Parents are absolutely responsible though.

The vast majority of home schooled kids do fine, yeah in one in a million cases it leads to terrible consequences, but its probably more likely to lead to such consequences in public schools. I don't know why liberals hate homeschool, private schools and charter schools the way they do. Well, actually, I do know why, because they want all power to educate kids under their control, and its easier for them to gain control of a centralized system.

The vast majority of home schooled kids do fine I seriously doubt that. How many parents do you think can prove Pythagoras's Theorem and explain the Theory of Relativity and are knowledgeable in geography and world history and can conjugate a verb and explain its tenses and can teach sports skills etc etc. Bottom line: home schooling is useless and produces highly ignorant children.

Amen This is what happens when you homeschool children: You get spelling bee champions who are complete social misfits who wouldnt last far out in the real world without offending someone or making them uncomfortable. I cringe everytime I watch this. Kid has to have Aspergers syndrome "Were you surprised that you won?" "Not really" PURE GOLD! :D

In the States home schooled kids on average do better on tests than public school kids do.

Kiran was one hot snatch! She even opened her legs for the camera once. She did? when? It happened in 2004 I think. There's a forum dedicated to beautiful newsbabe caps.

It is a case of extreme neglect and irresponsiblility of the neighbors who stated on TV that they rarely saw the children. And when they did, the kids were skinny, sun deprived, and only outside at night. No, it was not legal obligation. But morally, the neighbors should have either called the police, or Child Protective Services, and reported extremely suspicious behavior.

Child Protective Services is a bunch of pedophiles, just like Blackwater. How come it doesn’t occur to anyone that your first instinct shouldn’t be to tattle tale to the grown ups? See that’s what’s wrong with public school. This isn’t Uncle Joe Stalin’s Communist States Of America. You don’t get party credit for ratting on your neighbor to Big Brother. How about talking to the parents first?

I think that description fits everyone on my block and just about everyone in my home town. People don't spend much time outside during the Autumn and Winter months. Home schooling does need more regulation because it has turned into a free pass for not educating children at all. Which creates a large population of people who end up on welfare or in prison because they were never given the proper instruction needed to get by in modern society. Which adds to the already increasing number of those who cannot work because they are injured or in too poor health to work a job. Bottom line is that "if you see something, say something" doesn't work because the public can't reliably determine what "something" is because they don't know what to look for. So it only adds to the number of false leads which hopelessly obfuscates effective attempts from law enforcement to stop crime.
