I used to enjoy it when it was mainly about getting the ball to a big powerful centre who dominated the paint, forwards drove the lane and either dunked or laid it off the glass. Modern stuff where they just bomb long threes over and over again is pretty boring. How many times do you see Steph Curry receive an inbound,,take it past halfway, dribble pointlessly for about 10 seconds and then shoot the ball? That's barely a sport IMO, just a skills contest. Thats because they finally figured out 3 is more than 2. Shooting in the 80s and 90s was awful. Todays players have unlimited range. They can score from anywhere. And it's boring.

Go Blues!!! Really needed that series win to regain a bit of credibility. A convincing defensive win in Brisbane in the decider. Is that the first time since Benny Elias' farewell in 1994?

First since an Andrew Johns inspired 2005 I remember that one too. Obviously don't remember it being in Brisbane. Watching the replay now.

RIP David Morrow. Brain cancer. Mercifully quick from diagnosis to death. Formed a fun commentary team with Warren Ryan on ABC which, as is common in broadcasting, went a little past its use by date by the end. Some brilliant athletics calls in there too. 71 and just a month away from Hall of Fame induction. Sad news.

Easily his best call (Morrow commentates Meninga’s try) And, one of the best Rugby League games ever, let alone Tests.

Just on the Origin decider, I hate to say it, but the carry on and complete bullshittery coming from officials and fans in maroon has been nothing short of laughable.
Seriously, the penalty/ six again count heavily favoured NSW and Klein was doing all he could to keep his whistle in his pocket. The entire game featured Queensland trying their hardest to slow down the game and not give NSW any sort of momentum at all, and have the QLD captain at every opportunity give the referee his two cents worth.
I hate to say it, but it was reminiscent of Melbourne Storm at their worst during the mid 2010’s. No guesses for where Billy Slater, QLD coach, played the entirety of his club football…….

The "Ashley Klein's been wearing a blue jumper all series" comments did give me a good laugh. I actually didn't disagree with the send off in game one but he was clearly favouring QLD in game two and could have blown a lot more penalties against them in game 3. All you really have is not sending off Murray and I think sin binning him after DCE had started the scuffle was entirely reasonable. Apparently if you don't umpire like Paul Simpkins in the 2006 grand final then you're letting the other team win. If you're not for them you're against them.

Game 2 was obviously an attempt to referee QLD back into the contest to keep it close after NSW won the first half 34-0.
The non send off of Cam Murray is seriously a non starter. If anyone wants to seriously take that stance, show me a video where all the QLD bench stands aside during the scuffle and doesn’t get involved, and where Cam Murray actually runs onto the field of play to get involved.
I can’t recall the 2006 grand final TBH. As I’m typing this, I’m watching YouTube highlights and it really isn’t ringing a bell….. I mustn’t have seen it, and didn’t bother afterwards to watch anything of it.

Two 2 point games last night. An annoying loss for the Warriors in a game where their kicker, not to put too fine a point on it, was shit. Missed two late conversions, neither of which were from the sideline. Earlier Canberra built up a 14-0 lead but even that was inflated by a dropped ball right near the goal line which would have been a try to make it 6-4 and Hudson scoring for Canberra by a mm a little later.
In the AFL karma was a bitch for Essendon. I remember Draper dancing around like a fuckwit after the umpire didn't penalise him late last time Essendon player Adelaide. This time Adelaide took the lead with 57s left and the Bombers went forward twice with the Crows rushing behinds both times. Weird season for the Crows as, while they've had some very poor losses, they've had two of their best road wins in years against Carlton and Essendon. Might be building something there.

Well, Collingwood's gone for 2024 but the Dragons are still a chance, my two second TEAMS, GWS and Penrith are in the top 4 of their respective comps so the whole year isn't a complete wash.

Christ, that’s pitiful. We had an answer: 12 consecutive misses! Real question is whether this is a single bad year or the end of an era. Pendlebury plays his 400th next week.
