Jason "why the fuck do I still have a job" Demetriou has finally been put out of his misery. Souths have celebrated with a hot start followed by a listless hour or so. Currently trailing Penrith 36-12 and looking absolutely woeful.
In the AFL in the first ever Thursday night edition of the Adelaide Showdown, the Crows are looking like taking the all time head to head lead (currently 27-all) up by 4 goals at 3/4 time. A miserable Port have managed just 4 goals. But these Showdowns tend to get tight so wouldn't be surprised if Port got a couple quickly in the last to make a game of it.

Canberra in the NRL and Collingwood in the AFL both win games they should’ve lost.
2 derbies in the NRL this weekend, one which gets a little less hype than it should, Saints v Sharks, and one which almost no hype as a derby when it should - Tigers v Bulldogs.
Swans v Giants in the AFL, considering they are both single figure odds to win the flag, should be the talk of the town in Sydney, but it’s barely made a ripple ….

The Macedonian Marvel's little boy pulls it out at the death for Collingwood! Daics and hus wife were going ape shit in the box! Carlton looked to be running away in the 2nd when I went to bed. Strange game as Collingwood dominated territory and scoring shots (which they never do) but Carlton's potency the few times they went forward kept them in the game.
Watched the Canberra v Manly game. When Manly are off they are dreadful and their play for much of the last hour mirrored their performance against the Dragons. Sloppy with ball in hand and conceding territory which put an unremarkable defence under pressure.
Roosters are contenders: no arguing against it now. Sharks, as always, need to beat someone good if they want to be taken seriously. The Dragons aren't good so beating us means nothing. Way I see it all the pressure's on them, particularly after that abomination we served up last week.
And the Sydney Derby (which they've thankfully stopped calling the battle for the bridge), like the Giants themselves, is a far bigger deal outside NSW than it is in. Though it's clearly third in line this round, neutrals in AFL states love it as it's an authentic rivalry with genuine spite that nearly always delivers a close game. Giants/ Bulldogs is not cross town obviously but similarly spiteful.

Interesting round in the AFL with the 3 premiership favourites all losing to the next 3 in line. Carlton were outplayed and flattered against Collingwood, Geelong were beaten in a tight arm wrestle against Melbourne and GWS ran out of legs late against Sydney after early injuries.
In the NRL, the big story this round has been injuries. Adam Reynolds pretty much out for the season and Papenhuyzen looking at another lengthy lay off. The Roosters have really put themselves forward as the 3rd big contender behind the Panthers and Storm. The Sharks may yet put themselves forward if they beat a good team but it won't be this week...

Well, that was...bad. Not all time shocker bad, but a completely useless second half against an opponent who didn't play all that well.
Warriors continued their fall into the mire with another loss, this time to Newcastle. Nothing of note in the AFL thus far.

For a change I'll hand it to Buzz. I don't know if it was planned or just geriatric serendipity but by invoking Kasey Badger's gender he's guaranteed her a gig at this year's Grand Final.
Personally I think far too much has been made of her gender both in support and criticism. End of the day she made a basic error which contributed to a barney spilling out of control and I think she would benefit from some time in lower grades.
I'm not one of those who thinks that football fields should be male only places (apart from attractive sideline reporters who bring the inklings of an erection to limp dick drunkards 8 schooners in), but Kasey would clearly benefit from learning her trade more before being thrown to the wolves for some good PR.

The sad part is that her colleague, Belinda Sharpe, is steadily amassing a career of solid professional games where it can be easily argued she is now the 2nd seed behind Adam Gee in the NRL refereeing ranks. i guess it’s just easier to criticise someone using their obvious minority status. Besides, many WT fans didn’t even notice Kasey’s gender. They were (are) pointing at the blatantly obvious corruption of the NRL and referees to see WT lose games. Exactly why is not important, it’s just happening. It’s not human error either. It’s a concerted effort against WT. My eyes are still sore from rolling so hard so often. Anyway, Chooks or Panthers for David Fifita ?

Hard choice. Playing with the Cleary's or a paper bag from Uncle Nic? Nic is 82 so I think the Clearys have a little more left in the tank. Both clubs ultimately have money to burn, but Penrith's recruiting area now starts at somewhere around Blacktown and ends at Cowra to the west and Dubbo to the north. They have a serious production line. I'd go there.

A couple of good games last night. Redcliffe and Manly swapping tries and leads for most of the second half. Really bad defensive gaff from Turbo led to the winning try. Manly were actually 16-6 ahead when I turned it on and the Dolphins went bang, bang, bang in exhilarating style in the last 5 or 6 minutes of the half. It was brilliant football.
In the AFL Carlton led comfortably all night and then found themselves bewildering on the backfoot for the entire last quarter as a 37 point lead evaporated down to a single point. Voss' non reaction to the final siren shows a team who, even at 6-3, has real concerns. They just can't stop opposition runs, which was also an issue last year.

RIP Cam McCarthy. Played for GWS and Fremantle. Found dead in his home yesterday aged 29 Beyond Blue links in all articles I've read on it make a suicide quite likely.
While I claim no expertise on the subject and take mental health, particularly male mental health, very seriously I really have to wonder if not talking about suicide and making it a great unmentionable really helps at all.

Probably not the best thread to follow in from, but yet another boneheaded game from the Tigers makes me question my sanity. No other team in either code knows how to win 80% of a game and still lose like Wests Tigers.
And I regret watching the Swans v Freo game. The w⚓️’s were very poor….
