I'm not sure about this one. It occurred to me while dining out yesterday. These days restaurants offer take-home boxes for leftovers. So, would Millennials (or gen y) and later know what is meant by a "doggie bag"?

My husband's father (a Navy man) taught his sons to ask of someone who--ahem--has not fastened his trousers: "Did someone die on your ship?" and if the guy has been asked that before, he will mend matters immediately. If he has not been asked that before, and replies, "No," his buddy may have to follow up with "Then why is your flag at half-staff?" |
