I have multiple family members, and associates that have lost children to gun violence. And many of them are armed, and want more armed protection. Everyone doesn't react the same way to traumatic events.
No one in this thread is saying children killed by firearms is not a big deal. They're saying the other thousands of children's live lost by other means are just as much of a deal. Anyone that doesn't get that shouldn't be a parent. And I don't want them anywhere near my kids, or any kids.
You can already tell by the focus on what type of shootings, that some kid are already valued over others. Now it their deaths that valued over others.
I've seen a lot of grieving parents. It's really not a competition of which types of death create parents that grieve the most.

In the UK we were getting advice fro the police on what to do in the event of a terrorist attacking us armed with a machete.. the advice was "run" Funnily, not one police service responded to my question of "what if I'm stood next to woman with a baby? Should I just run away and leave her?" The woman with the baby can't run?

As crass as this will sound to you.........THAT's the point.
On the long list of reasons kids die or get killed, school shootings are wayyyyyyyyyyyy down the list. So in realty, no biggie.
But our media has successfully ramped up your fear factor. I'll give them that.
"So in reality, no biggie" - I don't believe you're a parent. No parent would say this. I can't imagine what a parent of one of the children murdered at Sandy Hook or other school shootings would say in response to this. Cruel, INHUMANE, sick. What mass school shooting has the media reported on that didn't actually happen? Which one was made up? Are you one of Alex Joneses conspiracy theorists that Sandy Hook didn't happen? Every one of the school shootings reported actually happened. Parents who love their children OF COURSE are going to worry. That's HUMAN. More kids die of covid than school shootings. Remember when everyone was terrified of Craigslist killers? The media harped on it for months and people started taking absurd precautions. The odds of being killed during a Craigslist transaction were way lower than the chances of dying from diarrhea. It wasn't even close. Matter of fact, you are at far greater risk driving to a public place for a Craigslist transaction than you are during the transaction. So more people probably died as a result of the hysteria, do you think the media feels any responsibility? The media harp on shootings because they make money from it but it's a tiny fraction of deaths and that's why they inflate the number of mass shootings. According to the media, there have been more mass shootings this year than official sources count since 1966. Turn off the news and you'll be safe.

Why don’t you think about the schools that were hit by a tornado? Why is it always just about you and what YOU’VE experienced? As far as reading scores and math scores, I doubt these drills are the cause of lower test scores. FFS, it’s not as if they are doing drills all day every day. The low test scores, parents have to take some responsibility for. Many students are being successful and testing high. As parental involvement drops off, test scores do as well.
"We spent a $Trillion dollars........but if it saved just ONE life it was all worth it." Yeah, except to all the people that end footing that bill.
Don't FFS me. I've also had to read articles about studies (that WE paid for, as well) talking about how much more stressed children are today.......and their unpaid student loans.

There you go, restricting free speech and opposing thoughts. How does that make you feel?
Oh, so now it's gotta be a crazy conspiracy cooked up by QAnon? It can't just be a different view?
You really don't want to get into a 'parents who love their children' discussion with me. I'll provide article after article after article of all the loving parents out there. Example after example of people that should have required a license to breed.

Oh abbey, we know that even $1 dollar spent towards protecting kids is not worth it to you and will send you bitching and complaining. And yes FFS we also know you don’t really give a fuck about whether kids are stressed or not.
$1............$1 Trillion. It's all the same to those who love spending other people's money.
Today's kids 'stress' is a joke compared to people that lived 50, 100 or more years ago.

Since you don’t have a job and don’t pay taxes, we’re not spending your money anyway, so don’t worry about it, cupcake.
I've been employed since I was 17. I pay taxes.
Now it's not Upper Income bracket taxes.........which I think are ridiculous, too.
But I do worry about Govt abusing other people and certain voters pushing to steal even more from others.

A child dying in a car accident where the driver slams into a guard rail...is no less tragic or gruesome than one who dies in a car accident not involving a guard rail...and no reason whatsoever to abolish guardrails. Same with firearms in America. Save the dramatics. The child was killed immediately during the car accident. Not quite the same as what some of the children in Uvalde went through. Calling the police and begging for help. Ultimately gunned down beyond recognition, DNA samples needed to confirm identities. Not the same at all. If you don't know that a room full of children losing their lives in horrific carnage IS dramatic, HORRIFYING, you need to spend serious time on a shrink's couch. And this has happened repeatedly since Columbine. Spare us the profoundly ignorant false equivalencies. It gets worse than that, you know. Being emotional about dozens does not register with people who know that unchecked force can cause the deaths of millions. When it gets to be millions, there is no attempt at recognition, no sampling of DNA, just miles of trenches filled with the bodies of "deplorables". Your tears are wasted.

It only has to matter with legislators, and groups like Moms Against Gun Violence and Sandy Hook Promise know that. There are people like Chris Murphy advocating for sensible legislation because because of these groups. Don't worry; they wouldn't waste their time on you.

There is no sensible legislation they propose. When push really gets to shove, no piece of paper is going to protect the people. They were inches away from putting the uncompliant (unvaccinated) under house arrest and denying them life-saving care without any real resistance or consequences. Even now, food and energy is being weaponized against the people just as health care was not too long ago. The risk of what an armed population can do about that must be real at all times...or we'll only be free to be stock animals.

If people like you got what you wanted, the danger to school-children pales by comparison. The day our 2nd Amendment rights are eliminated, your right to disagree with the powers that be are put on borrowed time. Our right to disagree today is a luxury for which some suffering will always have to pay. We are talking about losing small or losing big. You will lose big so that you may feel better about not losing small. Bad trade.

'OMG I can't find a charger for my phone!' Going 5 hours without eating: 'OMG I'm starving to death!' Or the increasingly popular: 'OMG I can't figure out what gender I am!'
