Ricky Gervais will never be as big Steve Carell. Thats debatable. I'd argue Gervais is bigger though. How many times did he get invited to host an awards show? Also look at both their net worths. Sure the Office is big and where did the idea come from? Also Ricky can actually do stand-up

Strangely enough a gay friend once told me I was the queerest person he knew. Going crazy over trivial online joking about gay pride videos released by airlines would do that to you.

Thing is, with "comics" like Gervais ...if you like his type of humor / humour , you can deliberately watch or hear him on assorted media or you can go to his live shows BUT when he is hosting Awards shows and you do not like his "humor" you are left with having to make the decision to either skip the show entirely, mute the sound when he is on or listen to him and fume.
Same goes for the likes of one note "comics" like Chris Rock.

Ricky makes no difference.

Same goes for the likes of one note "comics" like Chris Rock. He’s typical shit-talker comic and using cheap shots at people is an easy way to get laughs. He’s not up to preach a sermon. I like The Office original…which Steven Merchant co-created…but in his other TV shows, he’s never gone much beyond that same nasty, egotistical character. Carell took the same character and made him three dimensional.
