I just saw the Rankine free - apparently it’s 24 metres but it looked a really harsh call. As a casual AFL fan, that call would make me worried. Methinks a flood of run too far frees are upon us all….. And to add injury to insult he strained his hamstring on the run and will miss weeks. Live I thought he was pushing it slightly but they very rarely penalise those and I thought he'd kicked it in time.

Has it always been 15 metres ?
Something deep in the recesses of my mind thinks it used to be 10….
Anyways, Tigers unfortunately kept up their streak of playing the most ill disciplined footy you’ve ever seen so lose 24-12. If they eliminate the sin bins and the dumb penalties, they’d go alright.
The big news I suppose is the injury to Cam Munster in what seems like Queenslands only setback so far. It will be really interesting to see if Slater picks the more experienced and straight forward albeit slightly out of form Tom Dearden or the enigmatic young flying Ezra Mam. The other option I’ve heard is to have DCE and Hunt at 6&7, and bring in either Reed Mahoney or J’Maine Hopgood to play 14.

Eels sack Brad Arthur. Not surprising. After missing finals last year he was never going to survive a poor start. So 11 years 52% winning percentage over 264 games. A Grand Final appearance and 2-3 prelims on top. Decent tenure but nothing remarkable.

Bevo could be joining the aack list with the Bulldogs losing to the Swans last night. They seem to have been on an endless treadmill of fair-middling since their 2016 Premiership. I think ultimately they overestimated their list after a deep finals run and just brought in role players who are great if you have superstars but pretty useless otherwise.
Dragons continued their two main trends this year: abysmal second half performances and not beating teams they shouldn't. 44-12 your final to an enigmatic Dogs team who've looked good at times this year and poor at others.

Manly beat Melbourne in the NRL. A hopelessly undermanned Collimgwood (who lost 2 more players before half time) draws with a hapless Fremantle in the west.
I'm off on another cruise on Sunday, this time to Fiji, so I will be off the grid for 12 days.

Well, the send off's been done to death so I won't go there, but I do think being a man down provided something of a smoke screen for what was a very poor performance from NSW with ball in hand. The halves combination was dysfunctional, Luai and Hynes often appeared to be playing against each other rather than off each other. Multiple times they appeared to run into each other and both had shockers defensively. Anyway that's my two cents on a complete disaster.
Women lost last night in what sounds like a real heartbreaker.
In the AFL, Richmond officially ended Adelaide's season, already on life support, with an 8 point win. Last week the Mighty Dragons won. The Roosters had a really poor loss. I was happy.

Reasonably big upset in the AFL with Brisbane thrashing the Bulldogs at Marvel.
Dragons with their best 2nd half performance in years if not decades was a nice change from some of their fade outs this year. Hunt and Lomax starring backing up from Origin. Combined with a party trick try at the end. Zac scored 32 points. Two second halves in a row. Who'd have Thunk it?

In the Dragons’ case, that was a WT team that completed a staggeringly low 4 sets in the entire second half, whilst conceding 7 errors. While most teams aim for 85% to 90% completion rates, WT went 4/11, an abysmal 36%. Chuck in yet another unnecessary sin bin, and 46-0 in half is a result. 9 losses in a row for the Tiges, and all of the early season promise has evaporated.

Well all 3 QLD teams in action this weekend lost. I will happily claim this very minor victory even though one if the wins was by NZ.
Panthers best manly pretty easily after trailing at half time. Sharks remain a complete enigma.
Carlton beat Essendon. North beat the rather over confident 3-10 Weagles over in Perth for their first win. Saints beat the utterly useless Suns. Swans are looking serious Minor Premiership runaways after coming from 35 points down to beat Geelong by 30. And Hawthorn will only be 2 games outside the 8 after starting 0-5 after knocking off GWS in Tassie.

Magpies beat Melbourne very easily in the King's Birthday game. Petracca broke 4 ribs in a marking contest in the 1st quarter but the Dees problems are up forward and have been really since mophead got hurt and never got back.
Neale Daniher continues to be an inspiration in the 10th Big Freeze. That's right Neale is still here after more than a decade with Motor Neurone. Pat Rafter, Sally Pearson and Meg Lanning were among the dozen or so participants. Millions of dollars raised once again.
Looks like it was a much better game in the NRL. Plenty of tries and late drama. Bulldogs won to knock the Dragons out of the 8. Parra were already pretty much gone so no huge issues here.

I heard on Inzane Rugby League that long time ABC voice of the NRL David Morrow has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Pertinent news ahead of brain cancer round in the NRL. I really do need to get on with financially supporting Chris O'Brien's Life House.

The Hammer just scored one of the great tries. Caught a high one from Nicho about 10m out, ran backward, and then ran 98m through what seemed like the entire Cronulla team. 2nd lead change of the half. Dolphins lead 28-24

Sharks score right on full time but Hynes misses the sideline conversion. Dolphins win a fun one 30-28.
