Like the Sunshine Skyway in the 80's. Didn't this bridge have "dolphins", concrete and steel platforms guarding the supports? I guess not. It was built before the Skyway collision/collapse, so maybe they weren't required yet.

The video footage of this was fucking crazy! I hope everyone makes it out alive.
The number I heard they were looking for was low......... like 7
So at least it wasn't as bad as that Minnesota bridge a few years back

not sure about this one, but those ships have continued to get bigger, too

Looked like a very large portion to me. Like 99%

Horrifying.
My guess is equipment malfunction.

Looked like a very large portion to me. Like 99% I guess it depends on how you measure the bridge. 30% of the raised structure fell, which equates to about 50% of what was over water, or 100% of the suspended section.

Infrastructure? Who cares! This country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Wow! I initially assumed that the ship was too tall to pass under the bridge, but it is much worse than that. How the hell did that happen? I have never steered a boat that wasn’t powered by pedals or oars, but I can’t imagined it would be so hard for a professional boat driver person to avoid hitting a pillar. Easy on the nautical terms, dude! Not all of us went to Annapolis! I heard on the news that a possible explanation at this point is that the thing that makes the boat go forward failed, so the boat was out of control.

I’ve been over that bridge many times when I lived in Maryland.
I doubt many of the people crossing the bridge at that time survived.

The video footage of this was fucking crazy! I hope everyone makes it out alive. They’ve only found a couple alive. The rest are almost certainly dead.

This post just propelled the thread a little more.

Can you imagine how that feels?

I wouldn’t be surprised if they hit the water before having a clue about what was actually happening, especially at 2 AM.
