Senior Conservatives - including a cabinet minister - say their party is likely to campaign to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) at the next election, if Rwanda flights continue to be blocked. There is frustration at the role of a European court in stopping flights for asylum seekers taking off last year. The minister told the BBC the UK was "probably" being punished for Brexit. The government's official position is that the UK will remain in the ECHR. A spokesperson said: "The government has been clear that it will abide by its international treaty obligations. "As we've set out previously - we believe our Stop the Boats Bill will deliver the changes necessary to reduce the incentives for people to risk their lives through illegal crossings while remaining party to the ECHR." However, immigration minister Robert Jenrick would not rule out withdrawing from the convention, telling Times Radio the government would do "whatever is necessary ultimately to defend our borders". The comments by senior figures in government are likely to reignite a debate in the Conservative Party about the ECHR - which splits opinion among Tory MPs. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66438422Could be a vote winner even though it does do some good things. Some stupid things too of course.

Staggering, isn't it. A drive to the bottom. Link it with asylum seekers and appeal to the xenophobia in people as the only way to get elected. This appalling Government just gets more appalling by the day. Still, we "don't need human rights" apparently.

Some stupid things too of course. This is from the man who thinks taking down pictures of Disney characters who help to make the transition less arduous is defending our borders though. The man who tried to sell off land cheap to his mate, the equally appalling Richard "Dirty" Desmond a year or two back to stop the "Marxists" in the local council getting some extra money for the taxpayers. What a bunch of utter venal cunts the Conservatives are.

We should. Why do we need it? Just browse through the charta and you will get an idea of what might be important for you. For example: the more Tories fight against civil service, the more Art. 41 may gain importance: Article 41 - Right to good administration fra.europa.eu/en/eu-charter/article/41-right-good-administration
If I was a campaigner for keeping the charta I'd print the charta and pointed to all relevant articles the plutocracy wants to get rid off - at the cost of you all. Leaving the ECHR will be more costly than most of you are aware of, far far more costly.
The whole Rwanda thingy has been made up to trick you again into losing more of your rights!

The whole Rwanda thingy has been made up to trick you again into losing more of your rights! So Article 41 protected the people of Italy, Spain and Greece did it? Don't you lot hate the Hungarian and Polish governments? Hows 41 working there? And heres the thing. I don't want the EU to determine whether my government is good or bad. Thats the entire bloody point of leaving the EU....

When we were in the EU and the returns agreement applied, we hardly ever used it for some reason.

Not that I feel strongly about it one way or the other, but come on, be honest here. There is an enormous difference between "we don't need human rights" and "we don't need a foreign entity to tell us what human rights are, our courts are perfectly able to determine that on their own, thank you very much".

Someone should tell this fuckwit that the ECHR has nothing to do with the EU. Meanwhile, all those citizens concerned about immigration™ should stop voting for the party that has increased it so much during their 13 years in office.

Scroll through the charta (it's not that big) and pick the articles You think it might be about, I don't have a clue which rights UK citizens do have without the ECHR. Or even better: if You know a lawyer in private, go to a pub with him and ask him there.
